I think you need a brand new SD card.

Technical Support / Re: Mode C Reporting
« on: October 31, 2022, 03:09:31 pm »
Hi again David,

This is a very complicated subject, but I will endeavour to explain it in as simple terms as possible.

Mode C transmissions should be 'altitude' responses from a 'Pure' Mode C or from a Mode S transponder - but can in some circumstances also be 'ID Squawk' responses from either of the above. Due to limitations in what is in fact a relatively old and technically very complicated system, transponders sometimes use the same response 'code' to report a 'Squawk' of for example 7000 or an altitude of 7000 ft.
Hi
I discovered that there is no direct conversion for A and C code (it is obvius if you think to FL89).
There is a table of conversion from FL to 8bit code. You can found it there:

A warning to users of SafeSky - when I asked them about latency for a piece for Skywings last year it seemed like they were accepting very high levels of latency.
I also know the same, but i was unable to understood how high the latency may be with SS. How many seconds?

Technical Support / Re: Rosetta suddenly stops working

After the suggestion by Steve, check if one of the usb devices have go e faulty pulling down the power
After seeing the voltage error, unplug the GPS and SDR
Does the voltage error continue?
Thanks for suggestion, you are right.
I discovered that unplugging the 1090SDR cause the Status revert to green, voltage to OK and GPS came back alive (see screenshot).
I dont have another Rosetta for testing, so I must assume that the SDR is broken.
What SDR must I buy as spare part and where i can found it? I live in Italy

Technical Support / Rosetta suddenly stops working
« on: July 31, 2022, 12:51:16 pm »
My Rosetta don't works anymore.
GPS and 1090 are always in "unavailable" red condition.
Voltage starts "ok" but revert in "error" in a few

I already tried:
- changed 2 different GPS dongles
- Formatting SD and reinstalling software
- changing many different power sources

What can I do? Help me, please!

Whilst we were unaware that Italy did not follow the rest of Europe in the harmonisation of the 860 Band
It was and it is following ;)

Ok, this is a screenshoot taken from another Rosetta following me ( I am 31DD1E)
He have seen me always pointing nord and 0 Knots speed. I'm pretty sure he was receiving my ADS-B signal, not the PAW.

Maybe I have the same problem with my Funke 800, with ADS-B receiving equipped aircraft seeing me always "nord up". Let me investigating about this. If it's true, I also will ask for bug fixing file, if it's possible. Thanks.

...in my case to combine the audio warnings from PilotAware and from SkyDemon on my iPad mini...

Does SkyDemon not give audio alerts of traffic itself? I just assumed it would but have no direct experience of this.
Yes, it does and I use those alerts instead of the Pilotaware alerts because SD also warn me about obstacles, airpaces and other.

Many headset have an aux in female connector on a side.
If your headset has it, you can use a cheap adapter to feed bluethooth audio in

I can confirm it was a microSD issue.
With a new installation on another SD the problem was solved.
The only symptom was the "1090 unavailable". Neither the log report any error

A friend of mine has the same problem, "1090 unavailable".
I have his Rosetta in my hands for testing and repairs, I will try installing a different SDR grabbed from another Rosetta.
Ok, it is not the SRD, but is the software corruption. I tried with another SD card from another Rosetta and everything is working fine.
Now I try formatting a different SD and reinstall the software
