Technical Support / Re: 1090 not working
« on: July 19, 2021, 05:56:07 pm »
A friend of mine has the same problem, "1090 unavailable".
I have his Rosetta in my hands for testing and repairs, I will try installing a different SDR grabbed from another Rosetta.

Thanks for you feedback.
I am not the developer of Enroute flight Navigation, but if you like I can forward to him your comments.
He wrote me that at present time there are about 10k installations, half of them in Germany.
I don't know how many pilots really use Enroute Flight Navigation, I installed it just to check if it really works with Rosetta, but to fly
I always use (and pay  :) ) skydemon.
The lack of airfields on English map may depend from the resources used to collect aeronautical data, that are mantained by volunteers.

Enroute Flight Navigation is a simple, limited features but absolutely free flight navigation app for Android, published under the GNU General Public License.
("absolutely free" also means that you have not to compare it with Skydemon or other paid software. If you want the skydemon features, please buy skydemon  ;))
It takes my attention because it is claimed to work with Traffic Receivers, so I tested it with my Pilotaware Rosetta, and it works, indeed!
The map shows positional traffics nearby. Their color changes from green to yellow when the traffics become near (I suppose the color turns red if they become REALLY near), they are shown as an arrow with a label with level difference and trend (increasing, standing, decreasing)
You can find more in the FAQ section on

Technical Support / Re: TAF/METARs in Skydemon using ATOM

Does "rewriting the data in the GDL90 format" mean that we must choose the GDL90 format to communicate between Rosetta and Skydemon? Does it mean to loose the non positional traffic nearby advices?

Maybe we can try to ask for adding a simply beep warning in case of bearingless traffic detected, to call pilot attention to the screen.

well done!

Technical Support / Re: New Software but license expired message?
« on: November 18, 2020, 12:12:55 pm »
Hi Kerry,

You have obviously worked out that you need to reinstall your previous Licence Key to re-activate your licence with your new software for the remainder of the existing licence period.

Version 20201101 means that the card you have been supplied with has had the newer software - released on 1st November 2020 installed, in place of Version 20200906 previously released on 6th September 2020 - (the version annotation is the issue date running backwards 2020-11-01).

Please feel free to come back if you have any queries about any of the new settings.

Regards

Peter
I missed the announcement of the new realease! What is new with that?

It seems like you have no position fix

General Discussion / Re: Using PAW to test own Transponder
« on: November 09, 2020, 12:11:40 pm »
I know that I could very well be wrong but, as I understand it, Mode S transponders will continuously transmit their address but the extended squitter doesn't reply with all the other Mode S information until the address is received by the ground station (for instance) and THEN that address it is interrogated for the other stuff. So it blasts away an address but that is not the information that we need from the Mode S information or the extended squitter data for ADSB nor to test if the transponder is working properly. You might get the HEX address of the aircraft but nothing about its altitude etc, nor about the other data that is 'selected'.
My point is that with a conventional transponder set to 'ON' it won't transmit Mode S nor Mode C, just the squawk; you need to set them to 'ALT'. I'm not familiar with the 35R but would assume the same applies, so that you can de-select squawking the altitude if requested by ATC.
If I'm not wrong, my trasponder can switch between "Standby" "ACS" or "AS"

Yes they do. He made a special PAW antenna on the exact frequency and I'm using it. You can see on one of attached pictures.
I beg you pardon. I know my questions are out of topic. Did you get a considerable improvement in stations and PAW traffic detection and communication with this kind of antenna?

« on: September 26, 2020, 07:13:42 pm »
Hi,
I've performed the update via IOS app but the Rosetta never connect again.
I tried the full manual update but after unzipping PilotAware.zip in the root there are 24 files instead of 25 !!!  :-\

I tried several times but the connection with Rosetta doesn’t appear anymore :'(

Please help me
Massimo, are you italian? If you want I can help you by phone. Remember, the full install process requires 15 to 20 minutes to e completed.
If you are unable to install the update and need further help, send me your phone number using the private message function.

Thanks for your answer!
Do they sell well tuned antennas for paw frequency?
