I purchased one of these a few days back along with Puck Aerial.
Both ara being assessed by a very knowledgeable Radio HAM at this time.
The Puck aerial claims 2.5 dBi gain. The Dipole is unknown.
I have lent the Aerial boys two PAW's with ARF's and hope to have some information by weekend.

Just ran up a P2 with two different WiFi dongles but the software runs to a failure of Processor type.
It knows it's a Pi2 Arm 7 and not the B+ Arm 6.
Looks like it stays on the bucket list Lee!

Due to limited space in my open cockpit I am using a Doogee X5 5 inch Android phone with Skydemon.
PAW has GPS Dongle so that powers the X5 postioning. This device uses Android 5.1 and cost £42.00.
Also supports two SIM cards, additional store with SD Card and an excellent screen.
IT has IPS Screen and is 'unlocked'.

General Discussion / Re: DVB-T USB dongle getting very hot

Plugged into Pi they run very hot. I now have mine connected with a 15cm USB Male/Female cable so its a little more remote.
Runs much cooler now. No idea why?

Lots of ideas and pre-thinking have to be abandoned when going from rough sketch to a Unit that may or may not perform.
I for one have enjoyed the whole process so far and to be brutally honest, the expenditure has been very little and the project feels to me to be moving forward.
I have two Units, both working albeit PAW performance not there yet. If we have to replace ARF....so be it.
For me confidence is increased by the simple number of take ups.
Lee and Team. Keep going!

PAW is self propelled in last two releases. You don't need to get involved with boot cycle.
Allow it to boot and you'll have a WiFi output. Choose that from Android, PC, Mac, iSomething with IP of 192.168.1.1 in any Browser.
At that point you'll be connected to system via small PAW Web Service. You can configure, check process logs and see status of hardware.
Not sure what you are trying achieve or what more you want?

I'm giving a PAW UNit to some Radio Ham boys who are very knowledgeable on getting the best out of low power, higher frequency communications.
They will measure output with various aerials I have tried and then start tuning through aerial design and ground plane combinations knowing that gain shouldn't exceed 500mW.
It's worth a try to utilise the ARF route which looks good except for range.

I have to say that this enthuses me greatly.
I did tests yesterday but with only one aircraft and results were not so convincing.
Weather looks good mid afternoon tomorrow (Sunday 18th) so I think I'll try and get airborne and persuade someone to fly with my spare Unit too.
Regards and Tanks to all concerned today.

General Discussion / Re: Transmit power and range

Russ Hi!
Thanks for flying over. Only to compound your disappointment and mine...I got NO indication or target from you.
Both my PAW could see each other. I did a very crude on the ground check of range.
With one unit in the car and the other on table outside the Hangar i managed to maintain target for about 250Metres line of sight whilst driving away.
When Unit placed on car roof and then driven up strip I got about 450Metres until out of line of sight.
Bit perplexing.
Used ARF Shield and SMA soldered to board on one and standard early build for other.
ADS-B worked OK with Medi-Vac Helicopter picked up at 700' AGL at 15NM.One target in North Sea! About 175NM to the East?

Tomorrow the RV6 goes to Thruxton and I'll put one Unit into it and have tracked from the ground and see what those results will be.

If its the Mini Dongle then carefully prise open case and check internal connection for aerial.
I had same symptoms and centre core detached.

If you use 'SD Format' I can almost guarantee no problems copying across PAW Files and booting it.
Now it's a 'self propelled' boot it's a no effort upgrade.
Always reformat.

I'm added. 5 miles SW of Bath. 2 Units built and running. Just need License Key for Unit 2.
My phone number is included as 'info' on my Place Mark if you are travelling that area. call me and I'll keep a look out.
You can land at my Strip but is is PPR to ensure Aircraft performance matched facility!
