Hi Lee,

the same problem.
With the jumper closed, the power on the regulator board lights red, with the jumper open
no power light.
 I don't want to destroy the only ARF I have

sorry just seen these messages, I did not have notify on this topic - duh

OK, the 3.3v regulator should look like this

Note the regulator chip where the board is marked U2

is should NOT look like this which is the 5v board

notice there is no regulator, and there is a tiny connection
in the top left hand corner labeled JMP

WARNING: in June a number of boards were manufactured
with the 3.3v regulator AND the JMP link in place, this is
a FAULT.
If the JMP link is in place, you must remove this, simply slide
a hot soldering iron across and it will come away.

digole.com assured me they contacted everybody with the faulty
consignment, but they did not contact me, hence 10 ARF are now
toasted.

I have attached a photo of my Regulator, which looks like productID=439. I am guessing that your explanation mean I cannot use this, and need it to be returned and replace with productID=438 ?

Good catch, this is the 5v version, this would hade destroyed your ARF.
I have a supply of the 3.3v boards if you want one quickly ?

As I only have access to Skydemon running on Android at the moment (se Setting up the Software Thread), I cannot fully test if the individual hardware components are working correctly. I can see the Pi is OK, as I can follow the boot up sequence via a monitor, and the lights on the ARF flash, but it would be helpful if there were some definitive testing I could carry out on the individual components, to ensure they are assembled and operating correctly.

I am much more familiar with software than hardware, especially in this field, so tend to follow the idiot guide to assembly. Any tips of how I can validate the individual components via software would be useful.
