General Discussion / Windows 10 & SD Formatter
« on: November 11, 2015, 07:21:41 pm »
I have been having problems Formatting the SD cards with SD Formatter V4 using windows 10. It appears to not be supported, The SD Format seems to work OK but after installing the Zip file of PilotAware onto the SD card and after installing the card to the Raspberry PI B+ It seems to crash on the first boot and install. I have not had a problem with Windows XP works OK

General Discussion / G-Mouse
« on: October 25, 2015, 06:12:48 pm »
Lee,
I got a G-Mouse you suggested earlier on in one of the forum threads.  It arrived on the Slow Boat this weekend so I have taken it for a test flight.
The G-Mouse is in port 1 (Top Left) and I'm using The latest version of PAW 18.  It connect OK but as soon as you start to move it locks up on the Ipad. ADS-B traffic is still active.
Is the a setting which needs to set in the web interface? or should it just be plug and play? I have not had this problem so far with the U-Blox7.

General Discussion / RF Board Progress

Is there any update on the progress of a solution to the RF Board or has this now stalled?
Has an alternative been found and currently been tested.

General Discussion / Piggy-Back Aircraft
« on: October 18, 2015, 06:54:08 pm »
Some testing today has revealed may be a bug? but not sure.

I now have LAA approval to turn on the ADS-B from the Trig TT22 transponder. Some testing using pilotAware is made easy to confirm it is on when I get the ADS-B of my own aircraft on sky Demon with the aircraft reg displaying and not the HEX code.

Ok, to loose the piggy back aircraft of myself from Sky Demon the HEX code is added to the PilotAware under the settings. No Problem here. HEX add PAW re booted, re-check confirmation HEX is stored and correct YES.

I still have the piggy-back aircraft showing. Test flight also confirms.  The ADS-B of my aircraft is showing the aircraft reg and not the HEX, after re-checking the correct transponder setup inputs all are correct.

Is this because the Trig TT21 transmits the VFR reg and not the HEX so pilotAware thinks its another aircraft and can not filter it out?

Would there be any interest in setting up a Facebook Group so we can post PilotAware to our online flying friends As I'm finding the still a lot of Pilots still have not heard of Lee's fantastic project. I'm not very good on a PC so maybe of interest If someone wants to set it up.

General Discussion / Do not Forget the HEX Code
« on: October 07, 2015, 06:58:11 pm »
Just reminder, but while testing two PilotAwre units today at home after updating to the recent release. I Could not understand why the two PAW units could not see each other. Then I realised I have to change the HEX Code in the web interface settings... Silly Me.

This made me think.... If a few of us forget to enter the HEX code for our aircraft and go fly, We now have a problem as we will not see each other.

Is there a fool proof way to get around this just incase a few of us forget in time to set up PAW correctly after an update?

For Pilots that hire club aircraft you will have to put in the HEX code of the aircraft you are going to fly. Just if you don't know where to find it. Just do a search for your aircraft on the CAA website G-INFO and it is listed for your aircraft.

General Discussion / PilotAware and PC
« on: October 03, 2015, 07:32:57 pm »
OK here is a challenge, With a GPS connected to the PA I can connect direct to my PC, This works fine and will be good for testing at home.
The problem I have I can not see traffic above 5000ft Ok we can alter this in our mobile devices but I can not find the option within the SkyDemon PC software. Does anyone know how to alter this setting?

I have just received the September edition of the Light Aircraft Association, what a great article on the Pilotaware. This should help with the development of the device. Very well written Lee.

Your article says you will be in the home builders tent at the rally this year. I'm intending on flying into the show on Sunday (weather permitting) so I'm very much looking forward to meeting you.

General Discussion / Transmitting 2 ADS-B Signels
« on: August 20, 2015, 11:14:54 am »
Hi

Just going a step further into fitting PilotAware into an Aircraft. If the Aircraft has ADS-B connected and active via the transponder, then using PilotAware the Aircraft would be transmitting 2 ADS-B singles.

OK Air Traffic will only receive the signal carried by the transponder ADS-B out, but if you spot that aircraft on your sky demon, Will you see two Aircraft together?

It may be advisable to disconnect the PilotAware ADS-B transmission if you are using the Aircraft Transponder to transmit your ADS-B signal

Have I got this correct?

General Discussion / Can GPS be added
« on: August 12, 2015, 10:10:05 pm »
just wanted to know if a GPS card can also be added to the Pilotaware and to the Pi board to all work together as one unit.

This would make Pilotaware  completely  independent ..... Or in other words using an IPad with out the built in GPS their would be no need for a Garman glow for example.

General Discussion / Setup
« on: August 06, 2015, 12:03:21 am »
Hi All,
I have just finished building the hardware... after plugging into the TV I get just a flashing color screen, and nothing ells. ( SD Card Installed)

On the Hardware... the PI lights up OK but should the Digole also light up on first power or does it not light up until the software in full installed? As I have no lights on the Digole.

Also I have the 1GB PI Is anyone using this successfully or should I have got the PI B+ the earlier version?

Thank You in advance.
