General Discussion / Re: ADS-B receiver only

That youtube video is mine... I'm going to have to start charging people for linking to it  :P :P :P

I was coming off a Traffic service with EMA Radar. You can read more http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3223599/Seconds-away-disaster-Dramatic-moment-pilot-avert-mid-air-collision-aircraft-caught-camera.html

That exact incident is exactly why I'm building my own PilotAware system, following the instructions on this website. I think everyone who is involved in GA should be investing in this.

@BobD and @Onkelmeutze,

Think I'm going the same route as you guys with mine, all the bits have pretty much arrived. Was wondering, how did you secure the ARF board and PowerPOD to the RPi casing? Are you putting anything between them and the main RPi board?

I'm a bit of a novice at this and likely to create an expensive mistake!!

Cheers!

Steve.

General Discussion / ADS-B Traffic without ARF
« on: September 06, 2015, 01:18:02 pm »
Hi All,

So... I'm impatient. Whilst I wait for parts to arrive from China, I've installed my SD card, got the wifi up and working and connected up the ADS-B receiver, whilst I wait for the fiddly bits for the ARF.

My question - should I be able to pick up ADS-B traffic without the other bits? I'm sat in visual range of EMA / EGNX (it's about 11nm away).

I was thinking I would be able to pick up commercial planes without the rest of the parts?

Am I wasting my time?
