General Discussion / AHRS incorporation
« on: March 19, 2016, 06:26:35 pm »
Hello all,

I know the PAW unit has the barometric pressure sensor as one of the features, but would anyone know if it would be possible to have the following integrated?

https://www.adafruit.com/products/1604

Reason I ask, and feel free to slap me down for going off piste, is that I'm moving to the US in a few months, I have 3 semi built PAW units and am patiently anticipating the new board to use in my UK aircraft, but I'd like to have another version for the states from the components I have remaining.

My current units all pick up ads-b traffic, and I'm hoping weather, but that's less important. What would be great is if the PAW unit could integrate that board, giving me AHRS input into the foreflight app.

I'm guessing there would be a fair amount of work for Lee and the team to do this, so it might just be a pipe dream of mine, but I'd hope that the feature might be used by others in Europe, or if skydemon etc wanted to include synthetic vision (which is what foreflight uses it for primarily)

Thanks all,

Steve.

General Discussion / Garmin Pilot and PilotAware
« on: March 14, 2016, 04:57:43 pm »
Does anyone know if it's possible to connect a PilotAware system to the Garmin Pilot app on the iPad?

I'm looking for a navigation app I could possibly use in the US and Canada as well as Europe.

Thanks all.

General Discussion / ICAO HEX to Aircraft Reg
« on: October 25, 2015, 06:05:27 pm »
Bryannortje  and I went out to do some testing today. Mixed bag of results, inbound to Turweston I could only see him whilst in the Circuit (his device on the ground). In the air, we had about 4 miles between us, but this is a bit unverified as at one point Bryan seemed to stop moving on mine, and I stopped moving on his - although I was able to see changing speeds and altitudes of his output, it was stuck on the map.

Aside that, we did notice that after a while, instead of showing the ICAO code, we both started showing our registrations on Skydemon. Neither of us were transmitting ADS-B, only Mode S transponders.

General Discussion / Decreasing ADS-B traffic
« on: October 03, 2015, 02:49:01 pm »
I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced this...

When I first connect up to PilotAware, I get to see pretty much every plane over the country... as I leave it on for a while, planes start to disappear to the point where it might only show 1 or 2 aircraft.

Sometimes more will pop back up, but I usually have to reboot it to get it capture the full amount of planes.

Anyone else had this problem?

General Discussion / CollisionAware Dropout / Disconnect
« on: September 11, 2015, 12:11:56 pm »
Hi All,

I've been trialing my PilotAware on my windowsill (trying to pick up BobD as he goes past).

Every 20 minutes or so, the "CollisionAware is Using Your Location" bar on my iPad disappears and I have to go back into the app and reconnect it.

Has anyone else experienced something similar?

I've got no way of seeing the terminal output at the moment, so I can't tell if any errors are coming up, or even if any errors would come up. I begrudge paying maplins £24.99 for a HDMI / DVI cable to connect it to my work monitor when I can get one from amazon for £4.99.

Any help would be, helpful...

Cheers,

SM.

General Discussion / PilotAware Unit Trials
« on: September 09, 2015, 08:50:20 pm »
Hi all,

I'll be out this weekend trialing my PilotAware system around the east midlands.

On Saturday i'm planning a trip from Nottingham, zone transit of East Mids, zone transit of Birmingham and inbound to Shobdon.

Sunday is undecided yet and it's all weather dependent.

Thought it would be good to keep a thread open on people who are planning on trialing their device so others could look out for them (but not fly so close as to cause an airprox...  :P :P)

General Discussion / ADS-B Traffic without ARF
« on: September 06, 2015, 01:18:02 pm »
Hi All,

So... I'm impatient. Whilst I wait for parts to arrive from China, I've installed my SD card, got the wifi up and working and connected up the ADS-B receiver, whilst I wait for the fiddly bits for the ARF.

My question - should I be able to pick up ADS-B traffic without the other bits? I'm sat in visual range of EMA / EGNX (it's about 11nm away).

I was thinking I would be able to pick up commercial planes without the rest of the parts?

Am I wasting my time?
