No longer receiving ADSB
« on: April 22, 2017, 12:07:24 pm »
PAW has worked brilliantly for some time now but recently has not been able to receive ADSB information.
The ADS-B status on the Home page is red with the message "Connected Msgs=0(+0)".

Have tried using different USB ports for ADSB dongle and performed a manual software upgrade twice with no improvement.
Is there anything else I can try or do I need a replacement ADSB dongle?

Hi Lee,

Please see screenshot attached.
Since my first post it started working for a short period then turned red again.

 Dave,

Where are you? Are you getting any other contacts on your traffic screen. From your screen grab, your unit had only been operating for a couple of minutes. Even sitting overlooking Edinburgh Airport I would have to wait longer than that for traffic to show. Not being negative, but any additional info e.g. screen grabs from Configure Screen and Traffic Screen and leaving it on a bit longer might help identify what is going on.

Regards

Hi Dave

Forgot to respond on this.
If you look at the list of USB devices, the RTLSDR dongle is not shown
This is usually due to
1. Power issues
2. Faulty SDR Dongle

Is this a classic or home build ?

Thx

It is a classic build less than a year old.
I am using an EasyAcc 20000mA power pack.
The fault is intermittent although fault time is vastly greater than the time it operates correctly.
It shows operation of only a few minutes because I switched it on just to get a screenshot as requested. Previous to that it has been on for up to a couple of hours with the same symptoms.

I think the first thing to try is to get a new ADS-B Dongle, although it could just be a poor USB contact ?
I have read the info on the EasyAcc, and to most accounts it should performa as well as an Anker.

I will ask Dave Styles at PilotAwareHardware.com to contact you

Thx

Thanks Lee.
If it is a USB contact it must be the dongle as I have tried it in different sockets of the Pi.

Lee,

Am I cracking up? Surely that's the dongle showing in the 3rd bottom line of the screen grab?

I have had this fault on one of my productions.....it was a broken track within the SDR dongle....applying a slight upward pressure on the SDR for about 10 seconds would resume the reception....let go and it would drop out again....replaced it and has been as good as gold since...

You are right - how did I not see that (I am cracking up)
In which case Dave, can you look at the logging screen to see if any error messages are being output ?

Thx

Lee,

The logging screen is too large to fit on one screenshot but having observed it for a while, when the ADSB status is green, the short message is displayed.
When the status turns red, the long message is displayed.
The system is not subject to any vibration during this time (static in my house).

Hi Dave,

I am not sure what is meant by 'short message' and 'long message' ?

Thx

Lee,
I am referring to the two lines on the attached part screenshot.
The same two lines are repeated numerous times (short one when green, long one when red).
