Author Topic: Latest software - Password causes system failure. Solved WiFi Dongle Changed.  (Read 12272 times)

Update 27/7/2017. Latest software loaded O.K. Thought I would try password facility again. IT DOES NOT WORK AGAIN. refuses to connect. Does anybody use this facility?

Downloaded latest software - Unit working o.k. Radar looks brilliant.

Setting up system, tried password facility again.

I never got this to work on the previous software release!

Set the password and cannot get back into system again.

Does anyone use this facility?

I have connected the PilotAware directly to the router again has previously suggested, not connecting at all.

So I now have a dead PilotAware.

Looks like I will have to do a manual software reload and not use the password protection.

I found the fixed ethernet had been assigned a static address when I upgraded mine, which I think was 192.168.0.100.  You could plug it directly into a PC and try that after manually setting the PC IP.

If all else fails plug it into the router and if you know the MAC address add it to your arp table manually, then you should be able to get at it.

like this, use a free IP on your network

Code: [Select]
arp -s 192.168.1.2 01-02-03-04-05-06
you should then be able to go to that IP address, hopefully regaining access.

Actually, try unplugging the WiFi module and connecting it via the fixed port, then turn it on.  That may re-enable DHCP on the fixed port automatically, but only Lee will know for sure what the logic is.

Jeremy is correct
Unplug the wifi dongle.
When you reboot you will need to look on your router to see what IP Address was assigned.
If nothing listed it will be 192.168.0.100

The password works, I use all the time, must be 8 alphanumeric characters, will not accept less

Thx
Lee

Thank you for the response JCurtis.

Do not understand first reply.

Tried unplugging all the dongles and connected to router and powered up.

Looking at the client table on the router it is not connecting to the PilotAware.

I uploaded the new software just by plugging into the router, leaving it 20 minutes and then installing the new software.

So the router connected O.K. with the old software.

The unit worked fine on the new software until I inserted a password, now nothing works!

Hello Lee,

Password was 9 characters, does it ignore the last character or lose the first character?

It's a techie way of getting access to a system, but then I added the 2nd one as I thought it may have been too techie for some.

No, the password is minimum 8 chars, so 9 is fine.
Is the issue that the hotspot does not appear, or that it will not accept the password

Be careful on IOS, it sometimes has an annoying habit of making the first character CAPITALIZED

O.K. Reloaded software.

System back up currently connected to router to hopefully download latest version of software.

No idea why entering a password completely disables my PilotAware.

Reluctant to try password entry again has it has taken over 4 hours messing about recovering system.

Does anyone other than Lee use the password facility?

Is the problem my password is 9 alphanumeric characters not 8?

I copied all the files from the SD card to my computer before reformatting and reloading the software.

Will any of the files contain information on the failure?

Password facility not essential yet, I have not come across another unit in this area, but I would like to set it up.

Is your password just alphanumeric, no special chars?
Did you also change the SSID or is it the default?

I'll give it a try on mine and see what happens.

Well I tried setting that password and it seemed to work, although the WiFi took quite a while to restart.  I do see that it is offering WPA rather than WPA2 security although that shouldn't prevent things from connecting.  On the device you're using to connect did you 'forget' that the PAW network and re-add it?  On some devices that is needed to have it clear out associations to the same hotspot name but with different security attributes set.  I was connecting from an iPhone on iOS 10 and a MacBook Pro.

I tried from the Wireless and wired interfaces and it worked fine on both.  Also threw in a reboot too just to make sure.

O.K. Jeremy,

Thank you for the advice.

I did not delete the original WiFi connection but my Android tablet added a new appearance of the PilotAware hotspot, which I tried to connect to.

Perhaps I tried the wrong one.!

No more time to play at the moment, need to recharge everything.

Will try again in the future.

I did save the password. Have tried power off PAW, wait 30 seconds, power on.

Whilst power was off deleted connection on my Hudle,(Android tablet).

Still can not connect to the PAW???

My windows 10 computer might not be able to use the WPA security.
It uses WPA2 on my home router.
My Hudle tablet also uses WPA2 on my home router.

Is that the problem? Cannot find a way to change the security from WPA2 to WPA on either device.

Will have to do a manual reload again and not use the password facility unless PAW can be configured to use WPA2.
