Altitude filter
« on: August 18, 2016, 05:53:02 am »
Hello,
I have a problem.
My Nav is Sky-Map and VFR-Nav    :-\
This have no altitude filter.
One should install a general filtering height in PW.

Software such as Easy VFR and Sky Demon has filters built   :)

thx
Christian

We should really get the SkyMap developers to fix this.
Every other tool handles this correctly
SkyDemon, RunwayHD, EasyVFR, ANP

Do you have a contact/reference at skymap - I am happy to contact them directly

Thx

Yes there is an altitude filter on PilotAware Radar see the operating instructions
Otherwise you need to use the altitude filter on sky demon EasyVFR etc

I use Sky-Map.
It does not have a height filter.

The programmer does not build in.  >:(

Then you need to take that up with the Sky Map developers, Christian.

PAW works with most other systems, so building an additional altitude filter into PAW would just cause unnecessary potential conflict with all those systems.

Hi Positiv
Sorry to hear that.
At PilotAware we try also to be "Positive" sorry for the pun, and so have provided a filter on RADAR, for which we have control and also pass on all traffic received to external devices so that they have the maximum opportunity to differentiate themselves from their competitors. Sometimes they do not do everything that their customers require. :-(

However thanks for your support. Where are you based?

XC Soar also doesn't have an altitude filter.

XC Soar also doesn't have an altitude filter.
Yes that's my experience as well.   I've just started using PAW and as I use an Aware for my GPS I've installed XCSoar on my old phone as the display for PAW.   It works quite well but having no ability to filter out traffic that is too far away does reduce its effectiveness considerably.
Can options be added to PAW to filter out the traffic before sending to nav software such as XCsoar?  Recognise this might need to be an "advanced mode" setting as most people will be able to do the filtering in their nav software,  but it would considerably improve PAW for me and other XCsoar users - see screen print.

PS: Yes I know I can use the inbuilt radar display but I found XCsoar was clearer, and in particular the black on white was easier to read

Hi Geoffrey,

See thread entitled "XCSoar Flarm Interface" (I'm unsure how to insert a link to it)! I requested that an altitude filter be added to the program by submitting a "development ticket" on 15 November 2016. It was unfortunately assigned "low priority". You may want to urge XCSoar to implement the request via their forum etc.

I'm now using PAW radar, also waiting on an iOS version of James Rose's RADAR3D which hopefully is imminent.

Regards,

Chris

This is the link Chris,

For future ref. just hold or 'right mouse click' on the header of the original post then select copy or copy link (varies depending on device you are using but generally fairly obvious) and then paste it in where you want it.
