Use of Anker powerbank to run PAW Rosetta
« on: March 27, 2019, 07:21:46 pm »
Hi,

Will this work as a UPS power backup for Rosetta?
https://www.anker.com/products/variant/powercore-slim-5000/A1250011

I know that Rosetta need 5v 2.1A. The powercore provide 5v 2.0A..  (0.1A difference)

The idea was connect the powercore slim 5000 to the cigarette plug in the cockpit and powering the Rosetta from the Powercore slim 5000.

trettum,

Most power banks don’t like being charged while power is being drawn from them, so we don’t recommend doing so.  Some in fact just won’t let you. I haven’t personally tried the PowerCore Slim 5000, so I can’t recommend it.

Edit: I just checked the Q & A on the PowerCore 5000 Spec Sheet (Q No.7) - Anker say they have specifically blocked the ability for this unit to power other devices while it is on charge ‘to protect external batteries’.

You would be better considering the Anker PowerCore 20100 - available from Amazon, which will power Rosetta for up to 18 hours between charges - so will easily cope with a full day’s flying. I have used these for almost 4 years now and still going strong, thoroughly recommended.

Best Regards

Peter

Thank you Peter.

I will take a closer look at the powerbank you mentioned :)

Hi again trettum,

You can find the one we recommend on Amazon here...

 https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00VJSGT2A/?coliid=I3UISOGY70K2EC&colid=2LV7ZMZCH2EA&psc=1&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it

The price has gone up by almost £10 since I bought my first two back in 2015, but they sometimes do offers - e.g. I see there is currently a £2 discount voucher on the linked page. I have seen them even cheaper as Amazon's 'Deal of the Day', but you could wait long enough before they come up again.

Best Regards

Peter
