Rosetta trade-in?
« on: May 18, 2018, 03:04:17 pm »
Liking the look of the Rosetta packaging - for those who fly club aircraft where PAW is taken away each time, its far better.

Having bought a PAW last year with all the spaguetti that goes with it, is there a plan to allow a trade-in of old to new?

Hi Burbank,

Yes, the guys are working out a deal for an upgrade path. Please be patient. It will be announced on the Forum (and presumably the Main and Facebook Sites) as soon as it is finalised.

Best Regards

Hi All

We are working on an upgrade path to convert existing PilotAware Classics to Rosetta Functionality. This will require a new bridge, new case, antenna, internal cables and a full manual software update to ensure a common kernel. We will be providing a service where you send your (Licensed and working) Classic back and we return it as a Rosetta look alike with full Rosetta functionality and capable of a Weather hardware upgrade in the future if you want it.

We cant offer this service just yet as we need to get additional materials in (Rosetta sales are going well). We will announce when the service is available along with the first come first served process so you are not without your PilotAware for more than a few days.

So that we can scope the material requirements do you think that there is a requirement for this?

Regards

Keith

Yes, I think there will be a demand for an upgrade service.  When you say “Rosetta lookalike” what exactly does tha5 mean? How will the upgrade compare with the new Rosetta?

When you return your working and licensed Classic to us we will do an exchange. You will get all new parts except for the Pi 2B, wifi dongle, power cable and  869.5MHz antenna (The thick one).

This will have all the functionality of PilotAware Rosetta. I say its a Rosetta lookalike because the Rosetta has a Raspberry Pi3 computer with a built in WiFi the upgrade will not.

PLEASE DONT SEND ANYTHING TO US UNTIL WE HAVE THE PROCESS IN PLACE. WHEN WE ARE READY WE WILL LET YOU KNOW VIA THE WEBSITE, FORUM AND FACEBOOK, HOW MUCH IT WILL COST AND HOW THE PROCESS WILL WORK.

The eagle eyed engineers amongst you will notice that this upgrade will therefore have one less USB slot available for extension that a New Rosetta. This will not be a problem in normal use and the returned Rosetta will be hardware and software upgradable to weather when this is available. (At the expense of ModeC/S if using Sky Demon).

However if you want weather and a wired connection for connection to a suitable Mode S transponder with extended squitter,  or FLARM mouse or a NMEA to Dynon etc you will have to upgrade to  RPi3 to get an extra port.
