Pilotaware connectivity with Skydemon
« on: March 08, 2018, 11:04:31 am »
I have Pilotaware with last software (20180129) and Skydemon on Ipad Air 2. PAW works fine with Flarm connectivity but doesn't work with Pilotaware connectivity on SD.
It's not a big issue but SD adivice me to ask you how to fix that issue.
Thanks in advance.

Nothing obviously wrong with any of those settings.
The PilotAware setting uses UDP protocol, and Flarm uses TCP. Normally there would be no reason to block UDP to your iPad. Unless you have some sort of security application installed?
Not sure what to suggest, but I would try telling your iPad to 'forget' the PilotAware network. Power the iPad off and reboot, then reconnect to the PilotAware hotspot.

Barbeau /All,

How often is this happening to you?

This sounds like the same problem I have now seen and reported a few times during testing - PAW showing 5 x greens and with a solid WiFi connection to the pad but SD flatly refusing to connect using the 'PilotAware UDP' setting. Changing SD to the FLARM connectivity setting without disconnecting the WiFi or any reboot of either system results in immediate connectivity when 'Go Flying - Use FLARM' is then selected instead.

Unfortunately the problem has been extremely intermittent - having only happened to me about 3 or 4 times over several months and at least 2 software versions - though when it does happen it persists with no connectivity possible until the SD connectivity option is either changed to 'FLARM' or SD is rebooted.

The problem hasn't happened to me at all yet on the most recent PilotAware software version we are testing, which includes some connectivity 'improvements' which could well have solved the issue. Unfortunately, it's too early to say yet whether this is the case - or indeed if the 'problem' actually lies with SkyDemon rather than PilotAware.

Regards

Peter

It happens each time I try to connect PAW to SD.
Is there a way to switch on PAW and SD,I mean is it important to switch on Paw first or not?
What about others options as connectivity options or more?
Ididn’t got any advise from SD OPS, they told me to contact Flight aware producer.
Thanks in advance for your support.

Hi Barbeau

I have just realised, you are running quite an old kernel 4.4.xx

I wonder if this needs a full installation in order to obtain a newer kernel
Are you able to perform a full installation ?

Thx

Hi
I have the last software (January 2018), what do you mean by « full installation » is it something different than time to time update?
If it’s different,  tell me how to do it?
Thanks in advance

The full documentation is here : New Operating Instructions 20180129
http://www.pilotaware.com/documents/

Take a look at Manual Software Upgrade - page 40

I would recommend using a second MicroSD card for this
Thx

Make sure you have a copy of your licence key to hand, as this will need to be re-entered, along with your Hex code and call sign

Thanks for advice regarding licence key
Instead of micro SD, is it possible to do a full installation with USB key as I usually do for update?

Barbeau,

Lee's point in asking you to do a full install is primarily to ensure that your software hasn't become 'corrupted' and that you are running the most recent 'Kernel' on the Raspberry Pi.

Unfortunately full installs can ONLY be done by reformatting the microSD card and copying the new files directly onto it on a PC or laptop. This procedure MUST be done exactly as per the Operating Manual - i.e. the Format MUST include a Full (Overwrite) Erase with Size Adjustment 'ON' or it won't work.
