Lee,
This is fantastic news. You are now well on your way to helping every one see everyone in the air, all they need is to put together your PilotAware. Please give your self a pat on the back from me.

BTW How far developed is the RS232 out part of PilotAware ?

If I bought a USB - RS232 cable and plugged it in would it just work with my mode S transponder  (ignoring paperwork issues for the sake of argument) ?

Before you go buying a usb rs232 cable they come in 2 forms, TTL which is 0v/5v logic, and classic which is -12v/+12v. So you need to check what your transponder accepts. Fwiw most are classic

Thx

Thanks Lee - I suspect 12v too as I think it takes power through it at the moment. It's a Funkwerk one.

I'm thinking: build a double cable which supplies +12v into the Transponder with one cable and with the data lines wired to a female RS232 connector through another cable. Then add a PL2303 based RS232 - USB cable plugged into the female connector.

I need to look into the details of the transponder though carefully first as breaking that would be expensive!

Probably won't do much on this side of things anyway at least until you think the s/w side is ready for some testing :)
