Hi gFlyer,

Not my area unfortunately, but I know Lee is, or is about to go, on holiday, so though I'd better reply rather than leave you hanging.

Unfortunately, the position is that despite approaches from Lee, Garmin just won't play - i.e. they flatly refuse to co-operate with us with regard to their protocols, which makes trying to integrate PilotAware with Garmin systems extremely difficult. There are several PilotAware users on the Forum trying to get round these issues by endeavouring to 'reverse engineer' the Garmin Protocols, but so far with limited success. All I can suggest is to search 'Garmin' from the Forum 'Home' page. Hopefully one of these guys will be able to help.

Regards
Peter

Hi Peter,

thanks for your answer.
I have made good experiences with Garmin and there communication in the Vans forum.

They have told me the area 660 works together with the flarm TRX1500 system by using the Garmin TIS interface and on the area 660 side the serial port should be set to "GTX TIS-A In".

Look here, it is the second post from above.

Would be great if pilotaware can support the area 660 as well.

Hi gFlyer

I am open to do this work, unfortunately Garmin will not provide information on fhe TIS format.
Its treated as confidential and not generally shared.

If you could convince Garmin otherwise, we would be happy to interface
I tried, but they would not release the information

Thx
Lee

The TIS protocol is also referred to as GDL-39 as I understand it, is that correct?

Look here may it helps: http://www.vansairforce.com/community/showthread.php?p=1183967&posted=1#post1183967

"I'm using power flarm core connected to 660 with Garmin Tis protocol via rs232.
Works great. The power flarm has the better flarm reception due double antennas compared to the trx1500.
You can share this rs232 line to multiple devices if the all can handle the same protocol and baud rate!!
You can use the second port to connect the "air connect" wifi unit to send the traffic signal via wifi to your iPad. I'm using easyvfr and it shows me traffic via flarm protocol where you see glider/plane symbol on the iPad."

Garmin will not share their interface, I have tried numerous times.
You could try contacting Garmin yourself, but I have been through the process 3 times, and it goes into a black hole and we get no response

Thx

good morning
this is my first post.
I'm Mariko from Italy.
May I ask if the Garmin 795 will display traffic data using a bluethooth connection, or noone of Garmin GPS can display traffic data from Rosetta?

Garmin only support GDL39
This is a closed proprietary protocol to connect other Garmin products

Pilotaware supports
Flarm dataport
Garmin GDL90
