I've no idea what I've done - but I did move the ADSB aerial to a better location and am receiving ads traffic.  It now seems OK.  I will test for a few hours.

David,

Just something to check Also anyone have a similar problem.  I had one Areal loose the small pin in the end of the plug. I could not understand why I conld not receive any ADS-B Traffic...  Just somthing to check

got Second Pilotaware unit working early this morning with BMP & 20150919 - no problems, and can see the first one within the house!  No idea the range though.
5 more PilotAwares to remake!  I believe the latest program release is more stable.

I'm having lots of issues with this build.

This is my setup:

Pigtail to securely fix ads-b antenna to pi casing next to P3i antenna: http://www.wifi-antennas.co.uk/mcx-male-to-rp-sma-female-pigtail-15cm.html?___SID=U
Ads-b dongle: http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/USB-DVB-T-DAB-FM-HDTV-TV-Tuner-Receiver-Stick-RTL2832-R820T-Tuner-Receiver-FT-/221844814739?txnId=1611209975012

Power pack: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/381252303705?ssPageName=STRK:MESINDXX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1436.l2649
USB cable (0.5m 20AWG): http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B010XWJBSQ?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00

Android & SD.

I startup my GPS and bluetooth GPS app (just to confirm using internal GPS does not make any difference).

PilotAwareAndroid pics up the correct location.  Although there is quite a difference in altitude.

Connected to wifi OK.

From within SD I click GoFlying>Use FLARM.

When I was testing yesterday on my way home it would connect. Within a few minutes I got GPS signal lost and SD drops out of naviagation mode. Trying to connect to FLARM again results in this

That message appears for various lengths of time before reconnecting from a few seconds to minutes and sometime never.

If I immediatly click GoFlying>Use Location Services SD navigates fine so I know my GPS signal is good.

I can see the wifi is still connected to PA and the web UI is still refreshing.

Hi Russ,

Is it the build of PilotAware, or the interaction with Android.
If you have access to an iOS device, can you tell me if you see the same issues when connecting from iOS ?

And to confirm, you think it is a change in this build ?
do you still have the 20150912 build to confirm that it works with that version ?

I don't have access to IOS but I'll roll back a version and text becuase I do think PA is harder to connect to.

rolled back and it certainly seems to connect and stay connected more easily. But,  if I crash out of PilotAwareAndroid and Bluetooth GPS so that SD looses GPS signal and get the apps running again I do get stuck on "Please wait while a connection is established...." when clicking Go Flying>Use FLARM. Go Flying>Use Location Services is fine. Restarting SD doesn't seem to help with reconnecting.

I may have changed the timeouts on the SD connection.
I will double check
Are you able to run this scenario when connected to a monitor ?
when the SD conection goes down, PilotAware should start listening again, something to the effect of

Listnening port : 2000 ...

I struggled to make this happen.  Crashing the apps didn't do it today but I did notice a lag reconnecting after just turning off my GPS.  Eventually SD reported lost GPS and dropped out of nav mode.

Some time passed before there was a socket timeout and then listening on 2000 happened again.

After maybe max 1 minute of listening SD resumed navigation (GPS still turned off but that's a separate issue).

Hi Russ

I made a fix this week that sends messages to SD simply saying The gps data is invalid, this keeps SD happy that it is receiving messages, even though the data is of no use. At some point later the data becomes valid, the point is that the comms stays up.
I have an engineering release with this capability, are you prepared to give this a go ?
Let me know and I will send a link.

Also I think I asked already, but do you have access to an IOS device to see if you get the same behavior ?

Thx
Lee

(PS. I think I need to get my Android device up and running for testing)

the new build (20150924) seems more stable and has stayed connected for hours with with ADS-B traffic showing. However, after turning off GPS and waiting to SD reports a lost GPS signal its still very slow to connect to PA again.  Of this happens in flight based on this testing I'd just have to use Go Flying again with location services.

After my static testing on the new build yesterday I attempted to drive to work this morning with my PA running with SD. Within a few hundered meters of actual movement I just end up with this. Clicking go flying>use flarm does get things reconnected again but not for long.

So just to confirm the difference is from Home to Car ?
How does your power setup differ between the two scenarios ?

The fact that this seems to be OK at home, but not in the car points to a power issue

It is from home to car.

At home I did happen to leave to the pi plugged in via a 3m USB to me PC yesterday but have succesfully used the same power pack and 20awg USB cable at home that I used in the car and it doesn't drop out like that.  Ins't it odd that it only drops out when moving?

If it is power I'm not sure what more I can do.

I am really surprised that it is anything to do with moving.
I presume you are using ChrisMills Android app for GPS sharing ?

Is the WiFi still showing as available, or does the WiFi disappear as well ?

I think I need to get SkyDemon setup on my android device
