WiFi issues
« on: September 18, 2015, 12:37:39 pm »
Hello

I appear to be having WiFI issues with my setup.
I have tried two USB WiFi dongles from the PiHut.
Both have worked for a period of time and then appear not to work now.
Attached is a screenshot of where it currently freezes and the red light on the dongle at that point.
Yesterday it went past this stage to where it was asking for the licence key, but no device was able to get a WiFi connection to the PilotAware, Nexus, Ipad and IPhone.

Any suggestions would be very welcome.

regards

Steve

Hi

I looked on the PiHut website for a spec but could not see anything.

The important thing is the chipset : RT5370
and support of : SoftAP

The images you posted are a little grainy, but it looks like a hang trying to start the HOSTAPD
This is the configuration of the WiFi as a SoftAP

Can you ask the PiHut for a detailed spec, and what chipset is used ?

I have similar problems :
- boot text shows RT5390 and RT5370 detection
- the boot goes till the License fail message (which is normal I think as I have no license)
- after some iteration, the license fail message switches from the normal address of the dongle to a 00:00:00:00:00 address
- if I use an EDIMAX dongle, boot fails at the login prompt.

I ordered another dongle to see if I can get the hotspot up and running, maybe not all RT3570 dongles are adapted to this project.

I am wondering if the issue is RT5390 ?
All the Raspberry Pi forums do say specifically RT5370 anddo not mention RT5390

If I send you an RT5370, would you swap with your RT5390, and I can see if I can get this working

Having fun setting up using a Wifi Dongle from ThePiHut which claims to have the correct hardware.

Will not create a WiFi hotspot when using the B+ model with either your software 20150911 or latest 20150919

I have a WiFi sniffer on the LapTop which does not even see it as well as the iPAD.

The error messages on the screen suggest there is a conflict with the DVB_T stick and cannot accept the commend to get, or set, the gain. DVB-T stick has the right hardware config.

Booting up the software 20150911 on the Raspberry Model B it works fine, no errors and WiFi hotspot created. hence request for a licence to see if I have a working system.

When I boot the Raspberry Pi B on the software 20150919 I get an error message "Error resizing existing FAT partition due to using /usr/sbin/pated to operate on (resize) a file system.

on closing this the goes to the normal screen shot to install the P31 but showing 0 bytes available and so won't create the boot files.

any ideas or am i doing something wrong?

Some more tests on my side with latest release
- some times (1 boot out of two or three), I see the hotspot on my IPad or PC but unable to connect ( IP is 169.254.184.40)
- some times the licences fail message keeps coming with the correct MAC address and then there are times when the MAC address returns to 000000000000000.

I will do more tests with the new dongle I shall receive midweek.

Can you go to the following address when connected

Please perform a screenshot and post so I can see the USB devices

I now have a Pilot Aware running on a Model B, not the plus version, with a "ThePiHut WifiDongle"

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B009FA2UYK/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

and a KEEDOX DVB-T on.co.uk/gp/product/B009VBUYA0/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

and linked to SkyDemon.

Running the 20150911 version of the software as the B model will not run the 20150919 version.

Chose the model B as the DVB-T and PiHut Wifi Dongle hardware combination function on a B+ model Pi. Appears to be a hardware conflict between the Wifi and the DVB-T

need to test the ARF, which I have built on a slice of Pi Board.

For what it's worth I had trouble with a Keedox DVB dongle - wouldn't work for me - sent it back and used one of these instead:

then all was OK.

I am unable to connect to 192.168.1.1 as my mobile device is not connected at all to the hotspot.
When using my Android phone I get stuck on "looking for IP" when trying to connect to the hotspot which tels a bit more than my IPad just waiting for connection and in the end showing no connection on an 169. range IP.
Hope this helps.

What I really need to know is the exact Vendor/Device ID of this usb WiFi dongle.
Can you provide a link to where you purchased ?
