SOLVED! - WiFi connection iPhone 6
« on: June 06, 2016, 10:27:30 pm »
Hi
Just put my parts together and powered up the device ,identified MAC address and have licence key however the iPhone will not connect to the WiFi .
I get the message :
Unable to join the network "Pilot Aware -B827EBD02EE1"

I have read the new data sheets and have been keeping up to date with the forum whilst waiting for dispatch and have searched the forum tonight but cannot identify a similar problem.

iPhone has 9.3.2 software and I am using a new Anker 20100 charged battery and have tried rebooting the device a few times.
I cannot also connect to the WiFi on a Samsung tablet and it just says "saved" but not the usual connected.

Thanks
Bryce

Try moving it about 2 metres away and see if it connects then. If so, you might need to update the software.

Are you using the supplied power cable ?
Thx

Hi Bryce

As the unit boots up, does the red LED on the board remain illuminated ?
if this red LED goes out or blinks it indicates a power issue.

Also, do you have a PC which could connect to the wireless hotspot ?

I am trying to determine if the WiFi really has an issue, or if it is a power issue.

Thx
Lee

Just rebooted and the red light illuminates constantly.

Tried Mac Pro laptop and message stated WiFi network could not be joined.

IPad gives same message as iPhone.

Just discovered that the WiFi connection details page are blank for my device .
Screenshot of iPhone attached.
Looks like WiFi dongle is transmitting but without any connection information for other devices to read.

Rob,

Do you have 'Ask to Join Networks' selected on your iPhone? If not you need to join manually.

Don't know why its not showing any details though - I don't have an iPhone - just looking at my iPad which may be different.

I have not come across this one before!

Edit: Just checked (by clicking the (i) symbol to the right of the unconnected networks visible on my pad) and all that information seems to be blank until you 'Join the Network'

regards

Peter

Hi Peter
I have "ask to join networks " selected on and have also tried to join manually but get the same result ,unable to join network.

On the Samsung tablet it saves the connection but identifies no connection data which is shown for other networks.

This sounds increasingly like a fault, too much of a coincedence that it fails to connect to all of the differing WiFi clients

I have asked Dave Styles to dispatch a new WiFi Dongle to see if that is the issue.

thx

Just a thought,

Unlikely,.... but I take it it is the WiFi dongle that came with a 'Classic Kit' that you are using Bryce? (i.e. not a random one that might be using the wrong chipset).

The reason this occurred to me is that when I tried to take the WiFi dongle out of my own Main PAW Unit earlier to do a test with an old Pi B+ for the 'software update' thread, the WiFi dongle came to bits (but possibly one of the cheap Chinese copies I bought last year, rather than the 'Known Good Hardware' supplied in the Kits).

Yet another new experience, Ho Hum!  :D

Hello Peter
Just the components supplied are assembled .
I have been reading the forum for some time whilst waiting delivery to avoid any gotcha's previously posted re power supplies , leads, distance , zero's etc
Thanks

Hi Bryce

Sent an email, but thought I would post here for others information

I recall another user reporting an issue with an Anker supply, due to what appeared to be a 'soft start'
in other words it was not able to supply the full 2.4A as it was required, but picked up over time.

if possible try the following

1. reboot system using Anker with only WiFi dongle attached
can this be connected ?

2. Reboot system using alternalte 2.0A supply - if available

Thx
Lee

Replacement wifi dongle received and device worked immediately it was started.
The iPhone wifi info page now shows data which previously were blank.
Photo of working wifi details attached.

Thank you Lee and Dave for resolving this.
