Updating software via Ethernet
« on: May 31, 2016, 01:42:06 pm »
I read some where I'm sure the software doesn't have to be re flashed on the memory card via a PC now and that it can be done by plugging an ethernet cable from your router into the PAW ethernet port. I have done this and pressed the"updates" then "check for updates" button on the home screen of 192.168.1.1.It then says "checking for updates" but then hangs at this point
Am i doing something incorrectly or does this function not work yet. The PAW version is currently 20160511 and I have seen there is 20160530 but not sure what to do than to revert to the old manual method of PC to SD card transfer
Thanks

Hi Brinz,

I haven't tried the new update yet as I'm currently using an Engineering Test version of the software. I know I had to revert to the old system to update from 20160509 to 20160511 on my 'backup' PAW (which runs normal software) b'cos there was some bug preventing it auto updating from 20160509, but I thought Lee had fixed it in 20160511. The old method still works, but you will have to re-enter your license key as reformatting the card will wipe the record of it.

Regards

Peter

Supplementary: I take it you know you have to connect your PAW to your Ethernet router before you power up the PAW? Just a thought.

Hi Brinzlee

which version are you running right now ?
you need to be at 20160511 for this feature, and there will be an update towards the end of the week

Thx

Hi again Brinzlee,

Now I'm totally confused! I just got home and tried to download your reported 20160530 using the Software link from the PilotAware forum, but the latest version available is 20160511. I then tried  the auto-update on my backup PAW - which did the check for updates but reported 'No updates are available', so where did you see the 20160530 version? My guess from what Lee says above is that it can only be a 'test' version that Lee has given someone to try to resolve a problem and which hasn't been released yet

Regards

Peter

Ok just to clarify I have version 20160511 already installed on the PAW.......At present there is no easy way to work out if there has been an update so I downloaded the latest zipped version to my PC from the paw website http://pilotaware.lode.co.uk/ , just to check the latest version, which I noticed was 20160530.....
I then connected my PAW to my router via an ethernet cable to see if the auto update worked......and it didn't.....I have to add my home router is 192.168.1.1 as well....is this a confilct ?
Kind regards
Brinsley

*****So Peter at 20:05 I have just gone back to the download section and 20160530 has now been removed and 20160511 put back in its place.....

Thanks for the update Brinzlee,

Now things are clearer. As I suggested earlier, probably a test in progress and you just happened to do a download at the 'wrong' time. I was beginning to think I was going crazy. As Lee says, as you are running 20160511 (the latest 'official' release), auto-update should work fine when the new update becomes available. It might be safer not to run the version you downloaded in case it hasn't been finalised.

Regards

Peter

Hi Brinsley

This release was pulled after an issue was found with the auto updating version, so please hold off for the time being.
You mest have literally got in there in the 2 hour slot it was available !

Thx
Lee

Trust me.....

Thanks for the heads up Lee.....

I'll try again another time.....

Is it possible in the Software update section to write the version number of the software so people know there is an update. When you download the Zip file now the only way of telling is by opening it and looking at the version number.

Merci Beaucoup !!

Brinsley,

I've posted a similar problem yesterday. Did you by any chance get this working or have you not yet done the upgrade?

Thanks, David.

I ended up reflashing the SD card from my PC using the latest version from the website....will let you know what happens next time....I also reconfigured my home network so that its not on the same network as PAW 192.168.1.1
