PAW Updating
« on: May 15, 2016, 04:25:18 pm »
Been having a little problem with there PAW update. Current version is 20160507 is there a fault with this version? The version before update function from the PAW web interface worked OK, Now trying again from version 20160507 to the current version 20160511. Connecting PAW direct to router with no other devices connect to the router (on Its own) the web interface freeze on the Ipad. I have  plunged in before power is turn on and also resetting the Router to obtain it gets an IP Addresses but it just freezes every time. Once disconnected from the router all is well again, Un-able to update.

Hi Lee

Having read this post and noticing it says version 20160511 I went to manual download page and checked there and the latest version is indeed 20160511.  As I currently have 20160509 I thought I'd give the web update another try after my difficulties the other day.  Again I definitely connected all before applying power and again I am getting a "root/servers/check.sh : error" message.
I note that you mention on another thread that the download happens automatically after 20 mins, do you have to be connected for this length of time before manual download works?

Regards
Alan

Hi Richard,
do you know what subnet your router is using ?
If it is 192.168.1.xxx, then this conflicts with PilotAware WiFi.
I will try to reproduce what you are reporting

Thx

aha, apologies folks, just realised.
If your installation was pre - 20160511, which it is for the ones you are reporting
You will need to install the old method, ie format a disk and install.
The reason is that there were some files I could not provide as an update

I will fix this in the next release, but first you will need to install 20160511 the 'old' way
very sorry, but could not be helped.

thx

Hi Lee,

FWIW, I updated by Ethernet before I left on Friday morning from 20160509 to 20160511 and all seems to be fine.

Hi Steve,

We have some work to do on documentation here, but basically:-
After installing the FCS release of 20160511, an auto update facility is in place.

The easiest method is as follows.

1. Plug an RJ45 cable from your home router into PilotAware
2. Power up PilotAware
3. Leave for 20 Minutes

4. Power off PilotAware
5. Disconnect from home router
6. Connect to PilotAware over WiFi
7. Open a web browser on 192.168.1.1
8. Click the Updates button

You will now get information telluing you if a new update is available, then simply press 'Install;

Full documentation on all these new features will be forthcoming.

Thx

Hi Lee,

I was unaware of the two recent software releases mentioned above that are now superseded by 20160511. Rather than periodically plugging in PAW to a router for 20 mins to check for updates, could you prominently announce updates on the Forum as well, together with release notes?

Many thanks for a fine job!

Hmm. Updates will be interesting as I planned to fit the unit with a remote card reader behind a very difficult to remove panel.

Can to card be updated without the main unit?

It would also be difficult to update on the airfield as there is no WiFi or any other link available.

Waiting for the post

Cheers

I have the same idea as you. I did get an extension card reader that plugs into the pi and pop the micro SD Card in the other end but I could not get it to read the card to start up the Pilotaware. I may have a faulty card extension but I have not got anything that takes the micro end of the extension to try it. I would be interested in how you get on with yours
Richard.

Awaiting delivery in post. It will be stuffed behind a Europa panel. I will post any success I have. I also intend to use a similar extension for my SmartASS and Power FLARM when I get round to the panel update. None tried out yet but in the box of goodies. Bit like the undercarriage warning system waiting but too late as did gear up last week :-0!

There are 2 ways to update at the moment

1. Reformat a disk and re-install (the old method)
2. Update from the wired RJ45 interface

I will think on the isue with not being able to gain access when mounted behind a panel

Thx
