Cooling

As a newbie to Pilotaware and this forum, I have a question? As a computer hardware engineer in the days before it was called IT, our biggest enemy to reliability was heat. So why is there a label, the disclaimer notice, across all the airvents on the removable cover. This covers the GPS module and the iGrid dongle, both major heat sources. There are two openings, one topside main case and the other, underside lower case, the lower opening is acceptable under the GPS module and fits a 3007 fan ( 30mm x 30mm x 7mm )which would (does) aid cooling. Any comments?

Hi Andy,

I’d have to say overheating isn’t normally an issue with Rosetta. Even when I ran dual SDRs for some experimental work with 978MHz uplinks a few years back, we never found the need to add a cooling fan (though I did do so for a while for comparison, but took it back out).

That said, my units are in ‘bare cases’ without the Rosetta ‘stickers’.

If you are experiencing heat issues, you could easily open up the ‘ventilation slots’ to allow increased airflow.

Hope this helps.
