Hi all,
I have just purchased this Dongle to provide our PilotAware with internet access for iGrid. I unfortunately did not realise that that it does not provide a WiFi signal but internet via the USB connection. Can PilotAware gain access to the Internet via the USB connection or do I need to purchase a different dongle.

There is a reply here from Lee (in another thread) explaining that these USB dongles draw too much current and are not a good idea:

I'd get something else that does not need to plug into a PAW USB port.

Hi Steveu, many thanks for the info and due to the high current consumption I have sent the dongle back today. I have just purchased a Huawei E8372H-320 LTE/4G which provides a local WiFi that the PilotAware can use. I am hoping to use the spare power slot in the Anker charger adapter with a USB extension cable to mount the dongle in an appropriate location to get the best reception.

I think you'll find that PilotAware recommends that you don't share the Anker adaptor with any other devices, I can't find a reference to it quickly, but I'm sure it's the case.

Someone with  more in depth knowledge may be along soon...

I recall the main issue with using an anker for two devices, is when the second device is an iPad
When an iPad is flat it draws a lot of current to charge its battery AND run the electronics

Although the Anker can have two sockets and suggest two power feeds I imagine drawing two supplies from it will degrade the amount of power for the all important PAW unit.

On another thread I've been warned about powering my dongle from the PAW USB unit but after 6 months of using it it seems fine.
Just researching how do not do that on another thread however.

My power supply to the PAW unit has been changed a few times and the latest seems the dogs kahuna, link below.
It's a AINOPE 4.8A, 2 x 2.4A
