Never heard of it until today, must have been sleeping.  :D

Is this development good/bad, or of no consequence to us?

Hi Ian,

EASA project working towards combining various EC modes / systems (including 1090MHz Mode-S, Mode-S /ES, ADSB, FLARM, PilotAware, Stratux and Cellular Based systems like SafeSky) to produce an interoperable EC Network (something like an extended / expanded version of ATOM-GRID) and allow manned and unmanned aircraft to integrate together in certain classes of airspace (known as ‘U-Space’). Should be good for us as it expands on PilotAware’s policy of maximising integration of existing and future EC systems.

Hopefully a positive step forward and ‘should’ help to influence the UK authorities to go down a similar route, rather than simply trying to force everyone to adopt their preferred 1090 ADSB - based option.

Having said all that, I have seen a few videos and read several papers on ADS Light, but hadn’t seen that paper yet, so thanks for posting the link. I will read it tonight.

Best Regards

Peter
p.s. I have expanded the thread title for clarity
