Connecting TRX 1500 to Aircrew for using Flarm modul
« on: May 12, 2022, 05:35:46 pm »
Hello
I am installing a TRX 1500 module in my machine. I already have an Aircrew in my machine connected to a Rosetta.
The TRX 1500 has a Flarm module and I want to connect it to the aircrew via the RJ45 socket.
Unfortunately there is no RJ45 output in the TRX 1500.
the link is made through a DB15 socket I enclose the manual the links are described on pages 16 17 18
Thank you for your advice
Sincerely
Guy Ferrer

Can't see much of a PilotAware element to this.

Looks like you'll need to buy or make up a cable connecting port 3 (basic) or port 2 (clever) on your TRX 1500 to your Aircrew via the correct pins (5, 6, 7) on your RJ45 on your Aircrew. That's DB15 to RJ45, will need soldering and a crimp tool.

Then configure the baud rate in the Aircrew device.

You've already got ADS-B direct and FLARM via ground stations in the PilotAware AFAICT, just connect USB from Aircrew to PAW and configure.

Or am I missing something?

Thanks Steveu
For your help, I fly in France where we do not have ground stations to receive the flarms, I take advantage of the fact that the trx 1500 has a flarm module to receive it on the Aircrew module...
I actually used the port 2 of the trx via the DB15 plug to the rj45 plug using pins 5 and 6.
I did not connect pin 7, the trx is powered by the Rosetta, maybe I should connect it anyway?

Not sure why you connected across the RJ45 pins 5 and 6 - this is RX/TX - this doesn't seem right.

If you are sending data from the TRX1500 to the Aircrew using port 2, you would connect the pins 9 (Port 2 TX) and 7 at the DB15 end to pins 5 (RS232 RX) and 7 on the Aircrew. You need a signal ground for the RS232 to work as I understand it.

Pin 7 on the DB15 is ground - this should go to pin 7 on the RJ45.

Be careful - you don't want to short anything out.

Connecting across pins 5 and 6 will not work.

Thanks again for your help
I'm going to try this set up but not for another 10 days, I'm getting my daughter married this weekend  :) and back home next week
I'll keep you posted on the rest
Best regards
