Aircraft reported twice on PlaneFinder
« on: August 19, 2021, 05:29:22 pm »
We have recently installed a PA Rosetta in our aircraft.
All seems to work as expected but Ihave noticed that PlaneFinder App shows two aircraft one which shows our ID correctly and another that declares as unknown but indicates a Flarm response.
Is this just a PlaneFinder issue or have I got the config wrong?
I would appreciate any thoughts on this.

Kind regards,

John

What emitters do you have onboard?
Do you have flarm or a transponder?

Have you used the correct icao/hex code in your Pilotaware
I had no idea planefinder was taking data from OGN

Morning Lee / John,

I’ve just checked the Planefinder website and found the following in the “How It Works - Other Tracking Sources We Use” section of their site (in relation to FLARM traffic, but will also include PilotAware position reports from OGN Stations running version 0.2.8 ARM software)...

Quote
FLARM Feed (Gliders)

It is not practical to install ADS-B in gliders due to constraints of cost, weight, and power. FLARM has been developed as a situational awareness tool for glider pilots.
It is also sometimes used in some small planes and helicopters. The technology has short range and operates at a frequency of 868MHz. Plane Finder take a centralised FLARM feed.

Peter

Thank you for your prompt replies. We also have a Garmin GTX 23ES on board.
I think we have our HEX ID set correctly as we do not see our own aircraft as a target.
It is sounding like an issue in PlaneFinder not correlating the OGN data with the Transponder reply.

Any further thoughts would be appreciated.

Kind regards,

John

Your transponder will be multilaterated, and Pilotaware will be direct
If the hex code is correct, planefinder have a bug
Thx
