OGN Station update ?
« on: June 27, 2020, 11:37:25 am »
Hello all,

Was there an update last night ? My OGN station appears not to come up on the home page this morning, the radar 360 was working, but that now appears to have stopped as wee I have logged in and the Raspberry pie and it is working, what is the code to check the software version installed on the pi ?
Problem solved .......
There was an update last night....I did a hard reboot on the Pi and it is all now working as normal ? ( I have not had to do that before for an auto-update)

Regards,

Neil

A fair few of us may still be on timers, so any updates will get a hard reboot even though it's not necessary...

Hi Neil,

Yes there was an update last night, though your station should have uploaded it automatically and installed at reboot. Just a thought - Do you have your station on a timer?

Mine uploaded and restarted fine (it is on a timer). - Just seen Steve’s post on this same line of thought.

There is definitely something not right with this update.  The status page keeps locking up if you try to change to Metars and they don't come up or you leave it sitting on the metars page and something happens that they disappear and you are then unable to get back into the status page.  I have a separate shortcut to the radar page and this still works fine.
Mine would initially not change to metars this am and I had to pull the plug to get it back to the initial status page.
Later the metars did start working and all was ok for a while then having left it sitting on the metars I noticed that they had gone blank and there was no way back to the status page again.

Gent's

You are correct, I have removed the timer, after a post on the forum suggested it was no longer required.......
A manual reboot did correct all the faults that Alan has posted, my station had all those problems first thing this morning.

Unfortunately the fault will likely come back as I have rebooted several times now and still keep getting locked out of the status page.

Update

Just witnessed a Ryanair leaving EGPH recorded in the OGNR status page after a reboot but did not appear on the ATOM radar screen.  It was tracked on the 360Radar contributors VRS screen ok.

I thought I witnessed this earlier this morning but with the status page locking up I was not certain.  Several GA aircraft logged on the status page were not on the ATOM VRS.

Alan

Edit:

Just tried to refresh the ATOM Radar and it will not load either from the button in the status page or from my desktop shortcut.

I very rarely get aircraft showing on the status page and on the 360 radar page, I thought that was due to lack of other ATOM stations in the area, my radar 360 screen always looks quit blank compared to my FR24 screen.

Update
Just tried it again this morning, the metar’s page has locked out, reboot required to get it working.

Hi Neil,

My station was playing up last night, but working OK this morning - until I tried swapping screens, which caused it to lock up. I am in touch with Lee about this.

Which is your station please?

Peter

I'm at my strip today but not to fly.

I'll boot up my kiosk Pi and check that my system is working. I use a kiosk Pi for aircraft owners to see the VRS without needing to get it on their phone. I do METAR/VRS in 45 second chunks with an auto switch of tabs in Chromium.

I'm still on a time switch.  I don't propose to change this as I think everything is working.

Hi again All,

I have just run some tests locally and from these it appears that the issues we are seeing are instigated when we are manually switching between screens while monitoring the Ground Station locally - i.e. connected to it by browser via its local IP. Lee is aware of this and will investigate later, but in the meantime I suggest NOT manually switching between screens as the system seems to run and uplink to Rosetta / Classic PAW as intended when left to its own devices.

If you are experiencing issues, a manual reboot seems to restore normal operation provided no further screen swapping is undertaken.

Peter

Hi NATO,

My station was the same until I read in one of Keith Vinning’s documents that you have to apply via him to gain access the 360Radar MLAT feeds. Sent him a PM and it was quickly all sorted and suddenly lots of traffic showing on the VRS.

Hope this helps,

Chris

Edit: It is on page 23 of the March 2020 ATOM Station Build Instructions

Hi Neil

Not sure how old your initial installation was - it does not appear on our GRID, can I suggest the following

login to pi
cd rtlsd-ogn
./PilotAware-OGN.reinstall.sh

wait 20 mins or so for it to download full image and reboot.

Thx
Lee

Hi Lee,

All updated, is it now showing up on the grid network?
