Radio noise , interference Rosetta for COM
« on: May 28, 2020, 09:56:27 am »
After first fly test of Rosetta powered from Power Bank :
1. very strong audible noise in headphones from COM radio
2. noise was stronger or weaker if Rosetta was moved around plane

After investigation:
1. the source is Rosetta electronic board , of course
2. the receivers are shorts ends of shielded microphone cables, soldered to GA sockets (in my case)
it is high impedance , low voltage input so after amplification in transceiver or intercom, the voltage exceeds
settings of SQELCH and apperas in headphones, very often prevents proper communication.

Recomendation
1. install Rosetta as far as possible from Headphone sets sockets , from Intercom and from transceiver as well.

In my case in some positions, noise occurs even 40 cm from microphone sockets.
Installing Rosetta remember to give possibility to receive and transmit signals , GPS , 1090 MHz, WiFi ..... close to window (with insides antenas). In some places of my plane there was very good place for GPS, 1090 .... but WiFi to Sky Demon was very weak so .... especially in metal plane it can be investigation process to find a proper place.
Good luck.

In the interests of balance, my Rosetta sits on the coaming three inches above the Garmin audio panel and within about 8 inches of the GNS430. I have never had any issue at all with interference in the COM, whether powered from a power bank or from the panel USB socket. I'm not aware that any of my friends with either a Classic or Rosetta have had a problem either. My aeroplane is metal.

It suggests that you may have a problem that is specific to your installation, or your Rosetta.

Majority of noise comes from Power banks themselves - not all are equal, we recommend Anker.

Can I ask for a reference to the Power Bank you are using ?

Thx
