Can I test half built?
« on: October 22, 2015, 05:26:33 pm »
I have bought the Rasberry Pi b+, formatted my sd card, bought a mini USB DVB-T receiver and a 802.11N wireless adapter.

I am holding off on the radio transmitter unit and the 3v regulator until the issues with the radio unit are resolved.

So, if I connect all this up can I try using the unit in just the receive mode, or does the software need to see the radio module to work?

Mine is working perfectly without the radio board and regulator fitted just the DVB-T and WiFi dongles connected. Sitting the aerial on an old tin tray is giving plenty of traffic. Don't forget to set the Sky Demon up to show contacts at 40,000' or more as most will be commercial jets at high altitude.

One thing missing will be the barometric sensor, so you'll have to rely on GPS altitude.
