Downgrade to 20180520

At the airfield yesterday I met two Pilotaware users who had both downgraded from 20190621 because they had convinced themselves that they were not seeing transponder aircraft in the vicinity of the airfield. I regret I am unable to provide any detailed information to support their belief.
It doesn't seem logical that the 2019 upgrade should, in some way, restrict visibility of aircraft.
Are there any reasons why this should be the case apart from Setting in Configure?
Have any other users taken the same path?

Hi Cliff,

There is no reason I am aware of why 20190621 would show less Mode-S aircraft than 20180520 except if Mode CS (+Filter if transponder equipped) hasn’t been re-selected in PAW Config after the upgrade (remind them it is ‘Off’ by default and 20190621 was a fresh full install) or they have set too short a Mode CS Range (unlikely as you say they aren’t seeing ‘local’ Mode-S traffic). If they are running SkyDemon, they should also check that they have ‘Show Bearingless Targets’ enabled in ‘SkyDemon/Navigation Options’ as it can be reset to ‘Off’ by SD updates.

This is not the case, except for the following fact...
Mode-S aircraft will not be displayed as bearingless if the aircraft is received as an MLAT/Mode-S target, in which case its position is plotted.
So logically, the addition of Mode-S/3D, will reduce the number of bearingless targets displayed.

The way to convince yourself is to take a look at the traffic page where everything captured is displayed, but not necessarily sent to the Navigation device
