No ADS out needed
« on: August 23, 2015, 08:49:48 am »
Hello,
all parts are on their way to  build one system.
I'm wondering if there would be any problems running the system without the transmitter, I'm mostly interested in the ADS in (getting the other traffic) and not the ADS out (transmitting my position)?
Regards
Pascal

Hi Pascal

Can I ask what you are intending to use the device for ?
Are you intending to use this in an aircraft ?

Thx

Yes, this is intended to get initially the other traffics on my tablet via Skydemon.
I'm not sure the out broadcasting is permitted in France, I will have to do some research on that matter.
For ADS ou I'd rather stick to my transponder (once a get it upgraded).

This is kind of against the 'spirit' of the project.
You will not see aircraft which do not have an adsb transponder, but do have PilotAware.
868mhz is a license free frequency throughout Europe.
Maybe you could have a mode which does not transmit on 868mhz (but still receives) when you have an adsb transponder enabled aircraft

Thx

Thanks for your answer.
Some research showed than the broadcasting frequency can be used in France.
I'll get back to you for the licence numbre once I have all the hardware up and running.

Hi,  it's fine to use in France.  The rules are basically the same across Europe. See  ETSI EN300 220. Ero recommendation 70-3.

It's slightly different in the USA, they use 902-928MHz.
