ADS-B connection to Trig TT21
« on: December 13, 2018, 04:52:59 pm »
Hi everyone
Can anyone give me some direction on
Crimping the GPS /Earth wire to the pins
On the D connector.
I understand that a 4pin Crimper is required
Which I believe is an expensive Tool.Any suggestions
Where I can get these wires crimped.
Also do I need a tool to insert the pin in the connector
Or is it the case of just pushing the pin in?
Many thanks for any help
Colin

This is the D-Sub crimping tool that I have:

You can push the pins into the D-Sub connector if you wish and/or you can use the insertion/extraction tool.....actually more useful as an extraction tool as they push into the connector easily:

Hi chatward,

Yes, technically you need a mil spec crimp tool, but you can get away with using a generic crimp tool providing it is small enough to achieve an effective crimp and you use it carefully.

As PaulSS says, once crimped the pins usually slip into place in the D-sub easily, but you do need to use an extractor if you need to take the pin out again - so be careful to get it in the right place first time.

Trig supply extra pins with the transponder, but if these have been lost / mislaid, they are usually very helpful if you ask nicely.

I have an appropriate crimping tool.
If you want to post the wires to me I can crimp the pins on. Cheaper than me posting the crimping tool to you!

As mentioned, pins simply push in but won't come out unless you use an extract tool. Check your connector pin markings/orientation!

Colin, I would send your personal details to Tony via PM, not post on forum. Lots of bots looking for contact details to spam you. Suggest you edit your post?

With the LAS crimper shown you can alter the depth out of the adjustment range by popping a suitable bit of wire into the crimper before inserting the pin/wire to be crimped. The crimp position can also be checked by using a soft scrap of wire as a test piece before sacrificing an actual crimp pin.
