Skyview connection.
« on: November 10, 2018, 03:22:43 pm »
I am connecting Rosetta to Dynon Skyview.
I have the RS232cable, USB to dsub9. The instructions say the output information is provided on the 1. Orange and 2. Black leads.
Can anyone tell me what pins on the Dsub9, Orange and Black connect to. Is it simply 1 and 2 but as far as I can see pin 1 isn’t used.
Thanks,
Robin

Hopefully this should point you in the right direction:

Thanks for responding.
I had already found that site very helpful.
However it states ‘wire the dynon tx and rx to a female RS232’. I needed to know which pins to use in the 232.
I think I have now identified this to be 2 and 3.

Should be txd to 2, rxd to 3 and ground to pin 5, without the ground you will not get anything.
If you have only 2 wires then it is probably orange is TX and black is ground so you would be using pins 2 and 5.
Depending on what you are connecting to you might need to swap 2 & 3 but ground always stays on 5.
The other thing to be aware of is voltage levels, most devices are ‘standard’ RS232 (+-12v) but some devices are TTL level (0 to 3.3v) and don’t take kindly to higher levels!

Thank you Ben that is what I wanted to know.
I have a further question regarding audio notifications.
It seems I can have these from either PA or Skyview or both.
From experience can anyone tell me which will give the best result.
Thanks,
Robin

I have the audio from both, not sure and don't care which responds, as the audio warning makes me glance at Skydemon first, and Skyview second. Both displays are close to each other, and I find Skydemon easier to "read" initially, although Skyview is better for long range visual warnings. My setup uses Pilotaware as the source for SD, and the Dynon GPS as source for SV.
