3.5mm to Microphone adapter cable?
« on: September 04, 2018, 09:32:28 am »
Hi All,

I purchased a Rosetta PAW unit at the LAA rally and I'm looking forward to my first flight with it later this week weather permitting.

Currently I rent club aircraft while I'm building my RV7 and I'd like to hook the audio into the intercom somehow. Being a club aircraft there are no aux inputs in the audio panel so I would need to use some sort of cable to go from the PAW 3.5mm jack into one of the rear passenger jacks.

My headset is a basic David Clark so it doesn't have bluetooth or Aux input either.

I've done a simple search but I can't find any such cable. Has anyone else been in a similar situation and found a solution to this?

Thank you,

Abe

I used a 1/4" Twin adaptor and a 3.5mm Plug - Cable - 1/4" Plug. All Mono.
Headset calble into Twin Adapter, PAW Cable with 1/4" into Twin adaptor. Twin Adaptor into Aircraft Tel socket.
You will have no mute so PAW Audio's will be active as well as standard RT. Small price to pay and PAW messages short.
I use this arrangemnt as does another Airstrip user.
They can be purchased here.

Hi Gerry,

Aha, I'd not thought of trying it that way as I was trying to get in to the MIC in so I could mute it via the audio panel and so that any RHS passenger could also hear the alerts.

This is a good option though and for the cost I think I'll give it a go.

Thanks for your help.

Depending on the headset, the volume levels might not be satisfactory doing it this way. Some people have added amplifiers in line to boost the volume. But your mileage may vary!

This is the type of headphone amplifier that has proven useful for DC headsets and Bose headsets without a 3.5mm input.

If its out of stock search elsewhere. It should be about £16-20. Others charge £70 when stock is low. Avoid them.
