Pi 3B In a PAW Classic
« on: July 03, 2018, 03:08:02 pm »
Hi All!

Just about to replace my Pi 2 in my PAW Classic with a Pi 3B.
Will this give me Rosetta functionality or will the PAW Bridge need replacing?
I assume that the new Pi will have a different MAC address. How do I change my existing licence to the new MAC?

I was thinking of doing a full upgrade to rosetta, has anyone any photographs of the Rosetta box showing where all the external sockets are so that I can see if i need to do anything to the wiring in my aircraft, ( a very old but beautiful Cessns 120).

Best regards to everyone.

Hi Martin

Once you have installed the software and have the new MAC address
send an email to support@pilotaware.com requesting a license transfer, providing
name
email
old MAC address
new MAC address

Thx

Thanks Lee,

I will do that when the bits arrive.

The old bridge will NOT fit into the Rosetta case. The other changes are lower power RTLSDR, new improved 1090MHz antenna and Pigtail. Do you have your Classic permanently installed in the C120.

Hello Keith,

The PAW Classic is mounted on the coaming of my C120 tucked away behind an old Garmin Pilot 3 (my reserve stand alone GPS). The cables and plugs come through the coaming on fairly short leads and just fit my classic. I was hoping to keep my existing system but upgrade to Rosetta functionality.

Thanks for all that Keith but I've now gone ahead and ordered the Rosetta kit.

Tried the new Rosetta with Pi 3B computer in the aircraft last weekend. All is functioning correctly including ADS-B output to my Trig T31. It is a much neater installation than the classic.

At the moment it is powered by a separate RAVPOWER battery pack. As soon as I have all the bits and pieces I am going to wire in an ANKER 5 way usb charger.

Just to report back....

The Pi3B is working flawlessly …  seems a lot more responsive than the Pi2...

Still using two ipads, one for Radar and one for Skydemon, but this time with PAW providing the NAV GPS signal instead of the Bad Elf … been running like a charm all day in the Egg Beater !!

Cheers
