Just to be clear, you are talking about the FLARM antenna, not P3i. I agree with your reasoning.

Just wondering - does anyone know if are the P3I collinear antennas still available? I'm thinking about upgrading to something better than the stock P3I dipole to hopefully increase coverage for my station in Berwick upon Tweed.

I found a vast improvement when I upgraded from the stock antanna to one of the Chinese ones supplied by Keith, they are not however Discone type, which IIRC arn't really appropriate for our needs.
