Why no 'Shutdown' button?

I see in the options a 'reboot' button, but why no 'Shutdown' button?
It goes against the grain to abruptly shutdown a computer by pulling the power...

Most computers need to go through a shut down procedure to allow them to write data back to the hard drive before it shuts down. Most of our users, however, do not access the PilotAware Home Screen (or any of the other screens come to that) during flight, so to make things simpler and safer for use in an aircraft AND at the same time make the system more robust (e.g. in the event of a sudden loss of power), PilotAware is specifically configured to allow the system to boot automatically on application of power and shut down without problems by simply removing (or switching off) the power supply.

This system works absolutely fine.

the disk is mounted in READONLY mode, so no issues with pulling the power

I assume this is most of the time, but not all.
Eg, when first started the admin screen shows the previous powered-up date & time - so that must have been written to the SD previously?
Same for settings?

Correct, when performing a save, the disk is flipped RO RW RO

And when doing an update, presumably...

Yes, obviously it needs to be in RW Mode to write the update to the ‘disc’ (microSD) then locks itself down again to Read-Only to protect the program.

If power was pulled during update that could corrupt the software and if so you would need to reformat the card and do a full software reinstall, but the number of times this has happened to anyone to my knowledge over 3+ years and multiple software updates has been extremely low.
