login incorrect

Starting to get nnoyed now.
Seems this simple exercise is becoming a waste of time......
Installed the latest software download from the forum after my last attempt didn't work.
I reformatted the SD card and followed the not so step by step instructions.
There is no wifi to connect to and i am faced with the ligin command line.
Enter the usual pi an raspberry to login and it's not recognised......
has anyone else experienced this?

Sorry to hear you are having such trouble.

Can I confirm your using a PI B+, and not a PI 2.

During the boot process did you see any error messages ?
Possibly when starting hostapd ?

At the end of the boot process the usb devices are listed, what is reported for the wifi dongle ?

Can you tell me where you sourced the wifi dongle from, and if possible a link to the device.
If no wifi hotspot is showing this would point to an issue with the dongle, possibly not an rt5370 ?

I asked before, but you did not reply, can you confirm you had no rj45 connected during the boot process ?

Finally you cannot login to the OS, logins are disabled in PilotAware

and yes getting errors such as

the next one is
error for wireless request "set tx power" (8B26): set failed on device wlan0 : operation not permitted

Unfortunately this dongle does not support softap mode without additional drivers compiled into the kernel, as I mentioned the wifi dongle needs to be based upon the ralink rt5370

From the build guide...

It is imperative that the correct chipset is selected; there are many of these devices on the market which will not work as a Software AP on a Raspberry Pi.
Ralink RT5370 is the chipset required in this device, there may be others which could be compatible, but this chipset is known to be compatible.

Hi Lee,

I understand, however I have read that the dongle I have has been supported since 2012 on raspberry and only older software versions cause issues.
When I installed the Noobs version originally I did get to the login and entered the usual pi - raspberry username and password. then selected startx and got to the user interface. So I am guessing that the pilot aware is using an older software version?
So is there a way of down loading the pilot aware after installing the latest raspberry software?

Could you please double check your source ?
I agree the edimax is supported as a 'client', but not as a 'softap'.

I am using a very new raspbian, but would need to double check the version.
If you can point me to a reference that indicates that the edimax is supported as a softap in a standard raspbian release I would be very interested

Gone for one of the ones you suggested from amazon as I have a prime account and it should be here tomorrow.
So hopefully i can get it sorted Saturday as flying on Sunday and wanted to give it a whirl.

Can you provide a link to this, just want to check it out.
It has been a real pain, but a number of vendors are reporting that they are selling RT5370, and we are finding that some of these are fake, so I am trying to keep a list of vendors who supply good/bad dongles.
so if you can let me have a link, then let me know if all goes well
