My PAW is working well as far as I can tell but I have some questions: I fly from Blackbushe, usually around the SE
In flight I get occasional red circle warnings and only see the aircraft less than 1/2 the time. My warnings are set for close approach only, and SD is set +/- 1,000. Does everyone else get this?
If I replay a flight file and watch it on SD, does Mode C/S traffic pop up in the same place I originally saw it at the same time?
I regularly get gliders (:thumbs up:), what proportion use OGN as I'm not flying your 'golden triangle' Wellesbourne/Coventry at the moment?

Is there an easy way to tell which targets are PAWtoPAW contacts?

Any advice / steer to doc appreciated. And thanks, great product

General Discussion / Pi2
« on: January 26, 2016, 04:50:06 pm »
I built two PAWs and have quite a few bits left, almost enough for another one. Is it worth building a PAW based on the Pi2 (one of my bits left over), as from what I read on here it seems to be stable now?
Are there any issues to watch for like current draw / heat.

Also, is it still likely to be march/april for the new ARF? Will it still be called ARF? It seems like now would be the perfect time to be getting parts together ready to build for people who are making them for colleagues / others on the airfield.

It's too quiet!

General Discussion / barometer testing + PilotAware graphic
« on: November 23, 2015, 06:47:57 pm »
Is there a copy of the PilotAware graphic in high definition? I want to create labels for my PAW which include the MAC address and plane ID + hex code.

I have 2 PAW units with barometers. I noticed when I look at the 192.168.1.1 page it reports 1013 hPa until I connect Skydemon, then the page shows what I assume is it's calculated QNH.
Today Heathrow (closest airfield with weather) reported QNH 1025
PAW 4F reported 1032 with my altitude from phone at 260 feet (pretty close)
PAW 78 reported 1026 with my altitude from phone at 260 feet

both units are on the latest release 20151114, they have identical baro types on Harkwood shields

I took out the GPS as in the house it doesn't get a lock and spams the logging screen.

To test I:
  Powered the unit and waited for it to generate a wifi;
  connected the phone to 192.168.1.1;
  checked the phone had a valid GPS position;
  cold started PilotAwareAndroid
  checked the 192.168.1.1 page - baro Auto, 1013
  cold started Skydemon and pressed 'Go Flying', made sure it had a GPS lock (yellow plane appeared)
  went back to 192.168.1.1 and checked QNH and height

then repeated the above with the second unit after cold starting the phone

I will need to check at other QNH values to see if this is just an offset problem or if 1 of the baro's is faulty.
Is there a way to get a baro reading without starting Skydemon?
Is my test sequence OK, have I missed something, is there an easier way?

General Discussion / Logging PAW data
« on: November 20, 2015, 08:59:38 pm »
Is there an explanation of the logging options, what each one is for and how to save logging traces? I've just started flying with the PAW in the Farnborough area, it would be useful to look through logs to check what PAW-PAW contacts were made (if any). I would rather be focussing on flying and check on the PAW after the flight.
I'm already getting useful data from traffic into/out of Farnborough via ADS-B.
I see lots of interesting stuff on the traffic page, but this is ephemeral

I've got 2 PAW units including ARF that I'm going to ground test at Blackbushe Aviation today from 13:00, other units welcome.

Is there a methodical test plan for verifying the functioning of new units, GPS, wifi, ARF, tablet link, range of different detections, in and out of the aircraft, looking for shielded arcs etc? If not I'll make some notes for a initial draft

Has anyone else had this? With a system using a Nexus7 2013 and PilotAwareAndroid to provide GPS data.
s/w release 20151114
Connected to wifi 192.168.1.1
Select 'Go Flying' in Skydemon, Skydemon message 'Seeking GPS Satellites' which it never finds. I was outside at the time. Nexus reported satellite fixes and a position.
Force closed PilotAwareAndroid and restarted it, then satellites are found and it's away.

I tried to reproduce it by starting up inside (shielded from satellites) and going outside and it sprang into life by itself. But it wouldn't show traffic in SD until I stopped navigating then pressed 'Go Flying'

I'll try and get a definitive order of apps starting etc.
