Track not heading. :)

You can do this already by saving a different profile for each aircraft.

Isn't the good thing about PAW is that it maintains a table of all targets it receives, from whatever source, and cleverly integrates two or more signals into one when they are obviously the same aircraft?

What gets passed to the navigation app is then the single record for that aircraft target, with the highest level of positional data it can achieve from the merge of one or more signals at that point in time; this may change over time as signals related to the same target appear or disappear.

Call me Mr Pedant, but a GNSS receiver has no idea of your heading, in the aeronautical sense. All it can derive is your actual track, which is surely what you mean.

The Vector page says:

"⚠️Mode-S transponder analysis is currently in development.⚠️"

RTFM  ;)

Technical Support / Re: PAW not seeing Skyecho
« on: January 20, 2021, 03:10:16 pm »
Are you sure that the SE2 is being seen by anyone else.

If two distinct PAW set-ups re not seeing it, it smacks more to be that the problem lay with the SE2.

It is set to transmit, isn't it?

Technical Support / Helicopters depicted as aircraft in SkyDemon
« on: December 15, 2020, 02:39:15 pm »
When I use SkyDemon with a SkyEcho2, local RAF traffic targets are shown correctly as helicopters. With a second tablet running the same version of SkyDemon but linked to a PAW, the same traffic targets are depicted as aircraft. They are all ADSB-out targets.

Can anyone explain this? What am I doing wrong?

Technical Support / Re: Unable to change GroupID

Thanks Peter,

IIRC I wasn’t trying to change the current custom ID to anything particularly weird. I don’t think it even let me blank out what was there.

I’ll do some more controlled testing when I’m next at the aircraft in the next day or two.

Edit: Mysteriously, I went back to change the profile concerned to exactly the same value today and all worked first time! Thanks anyway.

Is this an issue, or am I doing something wrong?

Technical Support / Unable to change GroupID
« on: November 22, 2020, 02:25:47 pm »
I’ve just updated to the latest 20201101 release, and while setting up a new profile, noticed that I wasn’t able to change the Group ID, it kept resetting itself to the value of the current profile I was modifying.

This might be a problem that predates the current release, I haven’t tried to change GroupID for ages.

One ‘SD + FLARM’ subscription covers use of SD on up to 2 mobile devices simultaneously
Actually, you can use more than two mobiles devices concurrently running SD in moving map/traffic display mode; only two can be logged on for live updates at once.

The installation manual for the 35R may provide a clue:
Quote
The GTX 35R/45R transponders are compliant with RTCA/DO-181D, which specifies that the selection of transponder ALT and GND modes may not be controlled by the pilot. To allow the transponder to beoperated in ALT mode while on the ground, for the purposes of performing periodic testing in accordancewith the requirements of 14 CFR Part 91.413, the G3X system provides a special transponder ground maintenance test mode. Refer to the G3X installation manual (190-01115-01) for information

I know that I could very well be wrong but, as I understand it, Mode S transponders will continuously transmit their address but the extended squitter doesn't reply with all the other Mode S information until the address is received by the ground station (for instance) and THEN that address it is interrogated for the other stuff. So it blasts away an address but that is not the information that we need from the Mode S information or the extended squitter data for ADSB nor to test if the transponder is working properly. You might get the HEX address of the aircraft but nothing about its altitude etc, nor about the other data that is 'selected'.
My point is that with a conventional transponder set to 'ON' it won't transmit Mode S nor Mode C, just the squawk; you need to set them to 'ALT'. I'm not familiar with the 35R but would assume the same applies, so that you can de-select squawking the altitude if requested by ATC.

Parking it outside and waiting for it to be pinged by TCAS from a passing airliner (not a given these days) may be all it takes but:

- does it automatically enable ‘Ground’ mode now it’s in the aircraft?
- is ‘ON’ the right setting? On most conventional transponders, that will emit Mode A only, and you’d need to select ALT for modes C and S to be emitted.

Another thing to try would be to 'forget' the PAW network from the iOS list and reconnect afresh.
