OGN-R PilotAware / Re: New Stations Added
« on: December 04, 2017, 09:31:30 pm »
New Station now online.

Just converted our OGN station to an OGN-R station over the weekend at the Longmynd (Midland Gliding Club - PWMynd) between Shrewsbury and Ludlow in Shropshire.
The station is 1500ft above sea level so should get some good results, I just need to get the setup back into the proper position as I had to locate it in a temporary position whilst we had our new building built, once it is in the final position it should get 100 - 150 km range and will reach well into Wales.

As a power pilot PAW user based at Welshpool, that's brilliant news!

Peter, you may also want to check that SD has 'Show Bearingless Targets' toggled on.

Settings>Navigation Options>(Scroll down to 'Other Traffic' options set)

I was just about to make the same comment as Lee. It is definitely an OSX Safari browser in the screen shot, and the fact that that the next tab to the right appears to be showing this thread may be a bit of a clue!

Adhair - you'll need to connect your Mac to the PilotAware wifi hotspot as well if you want to display the home page; or use the browser on one of the connected mobile devices.

Dumb question. Have you actually ensured that your device is connected to the PilotAware wifi network?

Don't forget that there are still a lot a transponder equipped aircraft without an altitude encoder, so they only emit Mode A which is invisible to PAW.

Okay - issue was a typo in the license key!

Did you substitute an 's' for a 'c'?  :P

Tim Dawson did seem to imply that at least initially, SkyDemon would only present the data if connected via the GDL90 protocol.

I hope this doesn't mean that the existing website will take second place.

I have no intention of joining Facebook, ever.

Technical Support / Re: A Bug or Not S/D to FLARM Connection
« on: July 23, 2017, 05:08:33 pm »
I have the same problem. SD doesn’t work setting PAW connection. I am running SD 3.8.2.77 (I am a beta tester). Using FLARM it works.
3.8.2.77 is the live public version as well, it was pushed out a week or so ago.

I did a successful full SDcard upgrade yesterday (for the first time, phew!) so I could pick up all the latest kernel updates and any other fixes, and I'm please to say SkyDemon connected first time after I got all the settings sorted out. No problems connectivity-wise during an hour or or so of flight afterwards.  :)

Technical Support / Re: Ipad losing connection to PAW

My iPad/PAW combo has had very few connectivity issues, but the PAW hotspot is unique, in that when connected to it none of my iPads have ever shown a wifi icon top left.

Is this normal, and is the fact that MaxMangia is seeing an icon related to the problem?

Steevo,

Just to be sure, have you tried your Pilot Aware at the same time as using your transponder test kit?

What Lee means by 'being in the air' is that if you were actually airborne, you'd probably be high enough to be hit by a Secondary Radar pulse, which would trigger your transponder to reply with your squawk. On the ground you are almost certain to be invisible to any radar head, so your transponder sits there doing nothing.

General Discussion / Re: PAW and no nav software?

Surely the time is here for someone to write a smart watch display for PAW? No need to look at it until it vibrates on your wrist, and a simple radial display with distance/level etc would be good for those with restricted cockpit real estate.

My biggest concern is only registering the PilotAware unit, so if the other shareholders fly without my PilotAware unit I haven't opted the aircraft as a whole into the OGN.
There is no obligation to register in order for you to see OGN traffic. Registration just brings some additional 'benefits' which may or not be of interest.
