Can you come and do our Andover Strut at Popham sometime please? I asked Dave at the show but I'm not sure he knew where anything west of London was...  ;D :o

Second Monday evening of the month. Not sure what the schedule is at the moment, I'll see if there are any free slots this winter.

Ahah Winter in Popham what could be finer, you make it sound so appealing.
Paul it will be a  pleasure, let me have a couple of dates when you have sorted out the schedule.

We had a great night at the Tatenhill Flying club Derby last night with 28 folks attending

For those interested we are presenting at
Harwarden Safety day on 19th September
Coventry Flying Club  on 23rd September Coventry Airport 7.30
Leicester LAA Strutt on 10th October Plough Inn Normanton on Stour LE125HB 7.30
Oxford LAA Strut on 12th October Duke of Marlborough Pub near Woodstock (OX20 1HT) 8.00

Any more for any more? Lets get the PilotAware on the Road diary filled up

General Discussion / Re: HDMI/Audio? sockets
« on: September 07, 2016, 04:24:43 pm »
The HDMI cable is to connect to a monitor to be able to see the software and is useful for debugging if you are an expert. Not for general use
The 3.5mm cable is used as the audio output for the voice alerts as explained in the operating instructions available from pilotawarehardware.com

Hope this helps

Hi Ian
Yes this is very possible. We are doing 3 in September and 2 in October and are very pleased to come to clubs and struts to strut our stuff. All we need is a projector and screen or white wall and  a lively audience.
I will send you a PM to arrange.

Also if anyone else wants us to come to their club strut or gathering we will be very pleased to do so.
So use this thread to make a request.

Don't be shy now - we really like  meeting you all and we are happy to travel.

Of course!
If we had managed to transmit 500MW (Megga Watt) from a USB input then we would be on our way to solving the energy crisis.
Thanks for pointing this out

Hi DPark

I realise that i didn't answer your question in full.

When I was at rally yesterday there was some talk of connecting gps to transponder.
Is this something completely separate to the pilot aware ADSB or does the pilot aware take a feed from

You don't need to have a feed from a transponder under normal circumstances. PilotAware has its own GPS.

Hi DPark

PilotAware only receives ADS-B (1090MHz)  signals it does not transmit them as to do so would involve a lot more expense and regulation.

PilotAware transmits the same positional information as ADS-B but on the open 869.5MHz frequency which we call P3I (PilotAware third eye). This is transmitted at 500Mw and can be received by PilotAware units. If you have a transponder with extended squitter which you have in the Funke then by connecting it to the GPS in PilotAware this effectively converts your Mode s transponder into an ADSB transponder. This has the advantage that the Funke transponder will have considerably greater power output so you will be seen further by both ADSB-receivers including Pilotaware. Don't worry that you will then seem to be transmitting positional information on both PilotAware 869.5MHz and ADSB 1090MHz as this is taken care of in the PilotAware software, you won't be seen twice as it were.

Both Trig and Funke transponders can be connected to pilotAware and achieve this. Unfortunately this cannot be done to Garmin equipment as they are not so open with their information and have an approved Garmin method of upgrade involving an approved GPS with an approved price.

You will need to have the installation confirmed by your licensing authority usually the BMAA or the LAA who have a process to approve this.

I will write a paper on this and upload it onto the new PilotAware website which should be available in the next two weeks or so.

Hope that helps

Hi Dpark

PilotAware does not need a transponder to work. However if you mean can I use PilotAware to convert my Mode S transponder to ADSB-out

You can access the Funke document via the FASVIG website here: http://fasvig.org/funke-support-for-uncertified-gps-ads-b-out

I have done this on my Sports cruiser, and have no problems at all. I bought a usb extender, just in case, but it wasn't necessary. Now, I will use that for the USB stick upgrade, when we have the next release.

Hi Dave
Yes you can. If you are using all 4 then why not attach the Adsb dongle via a usb extension lead. Then you can easily get to this even if the PilotAware is buried deep behind the dashboard.
When testing I removed the Adsb dongle as my memory stick was too wide to fit by the side. This worked Ok with the Adsb dongle removed.
More and more folks are I doing a more permanent installation and this works fine in my experience
