Great News on the GPS .... Still a lot of thing hanging out of the Box.  How about adding the GPS internal and using something like this...

I Agree, The Charge2 is an outstanding product. The backup service is second to non. Compered to a device which is cube shaped and colored blue, the price is more than half the cost. The charge2 is British made. What more could you ask for....

My tests using Charge2 with PilotAware have shown to be a perfect match.

Lee,
Yes, using the internal Garmin Battery.
I did try to find the GLO firm-ware version but unfortunately nothing was found.

Richard

Hi Richard,
Sorry I was referring to the powerbank you have mentioned previously
Thx
Lee

Lee,
Just using the power outlet from car with a small USB adapter. I'm not sure of the make it was a cheep eBay item. The charge2 power unit you refer is fitted into the aircraft panel, so not avalble for testing at home. I will test it under the same as described in this earlier post in the aircraft. All my earlier problems did stem from power cables. I'm now using the power lead you suggested in your power test.

Ok
    After testing this afternoon.......

Using:-
iPad mini first generation wifi only (not cellular) with version 8.4.1 iOS
Germin GLO. Bluetooth GPS receiver.
PilotAware with the latest version installed on the nano card.

Results are after running for 1.5hr and Driving around in the local area a stop (while having an haircut) for 30mins without turning off the PilotAware device, no drop-out of the GPS, fully connected with wifi and Bluetooth with no timeout or drop out.

I will try the same procedures using the cellular IPad mini Second generation, first turning cellular data off. This stops the iPad using the internal GPS chip. So to use the Garmin GLO Bluetooth. This will be tested the next time I get to the airfield.

Sorry P this has not helped you with your problem. But I'm shure you will be able to sort out the problem.

P,
I will try to carry out a genuine moving (in the car) test later today and report back...... (I.m at work this morning)

Lee seems to think it may be something else.

It will be nice to know if I can simulate the same situation you have.

How about a Charge 4 USB Power?

 http://www.charge4.co.uk/

They are Software run. I currently use on on the IPad. But not yet tested with Pilotaware.

Richard.

Just a report back on using the charge2 for powering everything..... It appears I needed an upgrade for the unit I was using. "J" has very kindly exchanged the unit for an updated charge2 unit. All works very well with no power drops at all it powers the iPad and the PilotAware with no problems. Also no rf noise on the radio or headset. A perfect combination.

Lee.  yes it was for another iPad. Which I don't use for flying now. But I have been using it for testing on the ground. I intend to do a full test using the GLO in the air as soon as i can. The ground test seem to be throwing a few problems with other users of wifi only iPads. I will report back as soon as I have tested the GLO on the move.

I don't mean to hijack this thread. I've had a really good test flight using the PlotAware today. All worked really well so took a couple of screenshots of an aircraft picked up and displayed. I don't know how this was or what aircraft it was, but the point is it works as it should. Just need to get everyone els fitted up with a Pilotaware now.

Good point. I have not tried it on the move! I will next time I set it up and have a drive. Or may-be Sunday on the way to the rally.  I generally user the iPads built in gps chip.

Today I have had a really good test with the PlotAware in the air with fantastic results. With no dropouts from gps at all.
With iPad make sure you first get your wifi hotspot active. Now open collision aware app. And connect. Now leave the app. running with out closing it. Now open sky demon select flarm and you should be good to go.

One question come to mind? Have you installed the latest version of the Pilotaware zip file to your device. Lee altered a time out function within the software last week?

P.
Ok I,v been doing a little looking around for info on the garmin glo. I'm sorry to report that the GLO usb socket is used for power only and no NMEA output.

Strange you are having problems with the Bluetooth connection Of your GLO. I have no problems at all. I,m using an early iPad with latest update installed. Could your GLO be falty? Can you lone one from a friend to test?

Richard.
