Peter,

You might hope SE2 users will optimise their transmissions but my experience is that they are just switching SE2 boxes on and expect they are working. I suspect a lot of SE2 boxes were bought because there was a nice discount for something which was offering EC.

I am not hopeful that we can influence the SE2 world of users to implement what marginal improvement might be possible.

You supply some interesting info from other forums which I do not follow.

The question Cottie poses seems relevant.

I would like to know the count of SE2 contacts my PAW sees per flight. If none of us is seeing much SE2 and obviously ATOM stations are not seeing much this looks to be a problem that should be addressed.

Peter,

Thanks for your comment. But here is my problem. I own a PA28-181 and you cannot put outside aerials on this hull without a lot of trouble/expense permission wise. I have spent what some of the guys on this forum would class a lot of money in making my Garmin transponder 'ADSB out' certified. I say all this so you have the context.

What I am trying to say is that as with FLARM the ATOM stations might possibly transmit to us standard Rosetta types (inside aerials) some info on SE2 equipped aircraft... if that info is available to the ATOM stn.

We cannot expect the SE2 guys to optimise their transmissions, we can only be grateful they have done something and purchased some EC.

Can PAW ATOM stns redeem the situation a little without me having to drill holes in my PA28 ?

SteveU,
Supposing the Guys with SE2 don't bother about your feelings - is there something ATOM stations can do to make this better for us.

I must have not made myself clear. I think ATOM stations are likely to be picking up more than more than my Rosetta when it comes the SE2 transmissions and that some supplemental info from ATOM stations would be useful.

I have a couple of mates with their own aircraft and have SE2s and I have been checking on how a local ATOM station 'sees' these aircraft using James' new facility /GROUNDSTATIONS at AIRCREW. it does not seem that ATOM stations get them very well and it therefore makes me think I am unlikely to get good reception of them with my PAW Rosetta. Actually I have flown in convoy with one mate and never picked anything up, he only has Mode C and SE2. I even wonder whether it might make sense for ATOM stations to re-broadcast anything from SE2 so that we have more of a chance to 'see' something.

I thought that one of the complaints about the Barton/Goodwood SkyEcho 2019? trials was that units were left on in aircraft on the ground and there was a lot of ground clutter from ADS-B out data

Bonjour Benoit,

Just out of interest, what is problem ? Possibly it is that there is not much traffic with ADB-S or PilotAware traffic in France, perhaps that will come.

The Zaon PCAS kit is great - i had a unit for about 6 years and found it very useful but when it when it went broken i had no choice but to get PilotAware which is great in the UK.

If you have need of an old PCAS unit for hardware spares just ask. My unit got slightly hot when i put the batteries in the wrong way and never worked again!

In answer to Lee’s question i would say about 3 minutes considering the sequence of events in the aircraft that day from Rosetta power up.
Had 3 more flights since my last report - no Wifi problems.

I had the same problem with Rosetta last week. I use a power pack so at first I thought i needed to change the power pack but found it was fully charged and on disconnecting and reconnecting all was ok. No problem with the power pack over the next 2.5 hours flight. I have the new PAW software.

No problems at all over next three flights( on another day) . I start with a charged power pack first flight of the day, and carry a spare.

Technical Support / Re: iOS Firmware Updater problem

Hi All,

Here is the update from my previous report.

After flying today I downloaded (using mobile data) the new software into my mini ipad 4 ios14.0.1. SD running 3.14.4.  Firmware app v1.7

Firmware app step 1 ok

Then step 2 ok ( and took only seconds - amazing)

step 3 failed - remedy power down PAW and  power up, and then  'METAR' tab showing on home page. VG all done.

Sadly there is no ground station at EGKA so no metar data until my next flight.

My earlier problem is resolved. Happy

My suggestion for others is.....
don't download the new software one day and then do step 2 another,
do everything together.

Thanks to PAW, Neil Hathaway et al

Phil

Hi exfirepro
Yes I have updated SD which must be why I at least got Host-I’d showing but I think my problem
is that I had downloaded the latest paw software into my iPad at home using the Updater and then expected that I could go to step 2 when I was in my aircraft. I will try again next week and report back
Thanks to Robin also.

Hi Robin
Have you solved your problem yet?
I haven’t but I have at least got the Config page to show my Host-Id and licence key

Hi Kurt,
I have just started using the iPad Split screen feature ie SD with
any PAW page - mostly the PAW radar page. This means switching
back to the PAW home page is easy where you can check the ‘greens’
I can’t think why i never used split screen before but saw it on PAW’s
latest utube tutorial. Thanks.

Today I had  the same problem Robin reported initially - exactly the same on all points.
I have iOS 14.0.1 on my mini iPad. Anybody able to help?

I don't think I have seen such a dumb news item for a while and the haste of it is compounded by the spelling mistake.
Well what does it mean? Please advise us.
