Having problems again with the playback feature of aircrew. i think my browser/firewall is blocking it as the certificate is not up to date - anybody else having the same problem? My browser allows the main site but the playback feature is blocked??

Technical Support / Re: Corrupted track files?
« on: December 03, 2022, 12:22:43 am »
i also have experienced corrupted trk files for a couple of months and i am using 20220805. The corruption being obvious if i upload to aircrew.

The corruption causes the trk files to be small. An hour flight has a trk file of 350kb say instead of 4mb.

I have deleted all my trk files on the micro SD card so that the maximum space is available, but this does not help. Maybe my micro SD disk is somehow corrupt.

PAW seems to be working ok warning me of traffic, it is just not making a proper trk file.

There is no error msg which seems odd to me as something is going wrong when records are being written to disk,
and hundreds of records per flight are going astray.

Uploaded the new August software using the IOS app. All worked fine and I see that the app does tell you what the latest software version is but one has to check with the app.

But where are the notes on the version ? There is no changelog provided to the user when the app is used and frankly messing around with zip files when there is an app available is not something I am going to do.

So I say again there should be a version history!

Who knows what new feature there are or bugs fixed if there is no version history.

Maybe a topic entitled Version History with a brief outline of the changes. What was the Aug update for, for instance ?

I updated my software using the 20220602 version which was well advertised but i see from the above that there was an August update. Could updates be advertised on the forum maybe in a special topic relating only to LATEST SOFTWARE REVISION ?

Radar page Nautical Miles option ?

Now we have weather, and very useful it is, can we have the option for nautical miles instead of km so my brain does not have to keep calculating as I compare my onboard GPS nm to my next turning point ?

The weather picture on my route Gloster - Shoreham this morning was amazing

Just in case i messed up the update i did both flights today with the old software.

I need not have worried.

Arriving back at base as PilotAware was already linked to my Ipad based EFB and my Ipad has mobile data I selected the update App and clicked on the update icon and all of the next steps performed FLAWLESSLY

Well done everybody.

All the best for 2022

General Discussion / Re: Atom Station Uplinks
« on: August 10, 2021, 09:42:23 pm »
Thanks I have watched the vids.

My question regards the case where a nearby aircraft has both mode S and PAW and I have PAW and both of us are flying near ATOM ground stations.  If my aircraft detects the other aircraft PAW - PAW then great but because of obscuration PAW-PAW may be ineffective at a further moment in time. Should my aircraft, already detecting the other aircraft from its mode-s transmission ie same ICAO code, then receive MLAT data at that point in time albeit with obvious latency degraded info?

When an ATOM stn sees a PAW aircraft say aircraft "A" I take it the ATOM stn expects nearby PAW equipped aircraft will 'see' the aircraft "A" direct and consequently the ATOM stn does nothing. But other aircraft may not see "A" direct due to various circumstances. If aircraft "A" also has, say, mode-s it would be useful if the mode-s position of "A" was announced (if available) to all aircraft by the ATOM Stn. just in case.

SteveU,

It may be better to PM you the reg, and I'll find the current position of the SE2 in the AA5. This will avoid me drifting this thread anymore from the original title, which was a very good account.

Great news.

Can you send me contact info for future reference please?

Lee, Peter, and SteveU thanks for your feedback and comments.

Peter and SteveU
Lets hope you are right about the SE2 guys optimising the placement of their kit. I may be being too hard on them generally. On an individual level I have tried to help an AA5 flyer friend with an SE2 but his Vector diagram is still pathetic. If anybody has an AA5 and can show the best position I will pass the info on to my AA5 friend. I did not argue his choice of EC as he only has a mode C transponder.

SteveU,
I have the Rosetta in the rear window P1 side of my Archer and am very impressed with all the Uplink MLAT data from Selsey etc. I even get reports on MLAT circuit traffic at Shoreham albeit intermittently. I see a fair amount of 'P' contacts, and ADS-B contacts though probably from transponders. If we could get Aircrew to differentiate between SE2 and transponder ADS-B I would be wiser without the difficulty of trawling through the data by hand

So the spam can is not too much of a problem interference wise.

Well done with the ground station.

Phil
