Technical Support / Monopole whip v standard endfeed dipole
« on: October 16, 2017, 07:43:29 pm »
Trying to tidy up the installation in my flexwing I have tried a tuned low profile antenna positioned inside the pod just infront of my left leg/knee, this leads to loss of reception on the right. Caused by my body, radio, transponeder etc I assume. In an effort to correct this I mounted a tuned monopole whip antenna with ground plane at the front of the pod this appeared to give better performance.
However on returning to the airfield I knocked the antenna and it split ( Chinese I think). So the question is can I use the supplied original endfeed dipole antenna with a ground plane? does it matter?
Second question, why do I sometimes see my ground station and UP/OGN on Skydemon and sometimes no groundstation but UP/OGN gliders still displaying?

That would be my take on it as well, though I don't remember having an audio warning. Well aware the plane was there but not close in my estimation.

Hi dh87b,
If you were a biplane out of Cromer I saw you take off and climb out. I was in loose formation with another flexwing microlight, we had intended routing round the coast to Kings Lynn. However it wasnt looking good and we decided to route straight back to Sandy. I was visual with you as you slowly gained on me on my right and passed in front. There was no danger of a collision as you were visual to me and I was giving way to let you pass in front.

G-CIJO is my plane and I was indeed en route from Cromer.
I will have a look at my Skydemon track.
Anything else I can do?

I have just had a bit of trouble updating to version 20170721.
Using a usb stick as I have done before, downloaded the software made sure was renamed to pilotaware.pgp, booted up PAW got home page up on 192.168.1.1 put in the usb stick pressed check for updates button. Nothing. Reformatted Fat32 re downloaded software, renamed to pilotaware.pgp followed instructions still nothing. Renamed file to pilotaware (only). Same method software installed straight away. So whats going on?

Technical Support / Re: Mode S behaviour - normal?

I believe my Funke transponder works OK.

I took part in the original Nats ADSB trial using a handheld etrek gps to give the positional fix. I was tracked by Nats and they confirmed all was ok

    Hi Brian,

Just a quick message to let you know that your ADS-B has passed our criteria for the NIC and the SIL values so we are pleased to say your modification has been completed successfully.

Many thanks for your participation in the MODE-S GPS trial and we look forward to keeping in touch with you in future.

I have since incorporated PAW and use this to feed the Gps data  and all appears to function as expected. Visible to ATC and showing on flightradar24

I have a Funke TRT800H version 5.2  102 software.

Well when downloaded it was called PilotAware(1).pgp !!
Just realised I had a previous download on my PC  hence the (1). Others may fall into this trap?

Just tried the USB update and can't get it to work, trying connected to router now :(

We all had an excellent evening last night with over 40 pilots attending.
I charged £5 per head to come with a chilli supper and tea's and coffees.
Everyone paying had a raffle ticket and one lucky pilot received a free PilotAware unit. The PilotAware unit was won by the only female pilot  who was going to buy anyway! So with some generous discount on the PAW and Caroline doing the food we broke even on the night.
I believe thyere were 11 units sold on the night and some more will follow i'm sure. So I'm really pleased the evening was a success.
I sent out an email invite to several local airfields and we had 10 non club members come, many of whom purchased units.
Thanks Keith and Lee for continuing to develop and promote the device. :)
