Technical Support / Antenna testing?
« on: September 06, 2016, 07:43:01 pm »
Lee, is it possible to add the signal strength to the PAWRT lines?

That with positional info I can write an app plot the performance of P3I and ADSB antenna installations.

Technical Support / 20160820 issue since update
« on: August 23, 2016, 08:56:35 pm »
Just given myself a headache and trashed two PAW, and it was all going so well.

Last night I downloaded the latest version and did a full install as per the script on a formatted SD card. Installed it in my PiB+ and once it booted, connected to he Wifi and input my license number. Bingo worked as advertised.
Tonight I stupidly reformatted the same SD card for the Pi2B, connected and entered my license key. all good so far. However on reboot it kept rebooting the Pi, and I spotted it was only when I tried to connect with a browser (in this case my iPad).
OK, download a new copy, extract. Format SD card and copy files to it. This time I the PiB+. Insert key info and again when I reconnect with the iPad browser it reboots the Pi.
Could it be the iPad? so switched to iPhone with a complete new installation and bingo, I back in. Until I set the license key and reboot, then I am in the same situation as with the iPhone.

I am also unable to connect via the LAN, with the WiFi dongle in or out

Before anyone says it the power, I have tried two Anker Batteries and a Mains Pi PSU. As these were two good working units, I doubt it's a hardware issue. I am either doing something wrong, of the image is failing.

Time to have food :)

General Discussion / Ping Transponders
« on: July 29, 2016, 02:11:45 pm »
I wonder where this fits in the grand scheme of things? http://www.uavionix.com/ Being touted at Oshkosh.

In the UK we are struggling to get a LPAT off the ground, when there would appear to be an off-the-shelf option already launching in the US, or have I misunderstood what 'Ping' is?

Does anyone know how the heading of the other aircraft depicted in navigation software is derived? SkyDemon in particular. There is nothing in the messages sent to the nav software from PAW.

I had an RV on the same track as myself, but facing wrong way. I expected it to whip past me from the opposite direction, but it was 500' below me and overtaking. As it would, Vagabond v RV9 no contest :-)

General Discussion / G-CEAR

If you are on-line you were spotted yesterday :) Max 9km min 6km to my west

And your PAW configured with the hex code in both Hex-ID and Flight-ID, it should only be in the first.

General Discussion / Latest Update 20160708
« on: July 10, 2016, 12:23:38 pm »
I have updated my two PAW without any issues using the LAN.

I thought the volume save was to be fixed in this version? It's a pain in the butt to crank it up to full volume every time it's powered up.

I keep seeing an option to set the QNH, but it later disappears. Is this only while the Baro sorts itself out?

Also what is Mode-S Select and how do we use it?

General Discussion / Audio alerts
« on: June 16, 2016, 06:42:57 pm »
After The comments that people were driving around with PAW units in the car, I gave it a try today. It was not a good idea to set the mode S to test(noisy mode). My ears are still ringing from the non-stop alerts on the drive to Heathrow  ::)

I changed to the other extreme  for the return home. With the high level of alerts it appeared that the alerts were queued and often given after the threat had move quite some distance. It was also apparent that there was no priority for nearest threats. For example.
I was close to the threshold. There were three aircraft on final at 5, 7 and 10km. 7km was called first, then 10. The third was. Called last by which time the threat was approx 3km and closing fast. Inter spaced with these three calls there were others for aircraft heading away from me.

Is it possible to prioritise the alerts? And perhaps discard the more distant ones in a target rich environment?

Before anyone Says this is an unrealistic test, i would argue not as there was less than 15 aircraft in the vercinity, no more than a good fly in.

General Discussion / Pi case stickers
« on: June 11, 2016, 08:37:10 am »
I know this was asked a while back, but times have changed.

The PAW Classics are being shipped with a case sticker to advertise that it is a PAW? Are these available for those beta testers who are bringing a ramshackle pile of bit up-to-date?

Previous response was to make our own from supplied graphic image.

General Discussion / External Antenna for P3i transmission
« on: May 29, 2016, 09:00:48 am »
We already have a spare hole for an External Antenna on our group aircraft. Is there a recommended antenna that can be cut to the correct size?

Thanks guys for listening.

However I think I have shot my bolt by requesting a new license using the existing key option for my Pi B+. I was late posting off my two ARF(21/5/16) so still awaiting my Bridge. Not sure if it has arrived or which batch I will be in.  :-[
