OGN-R PilotAware / ADS-L (Automatic Dependent Surveillance - Light)
« on: May 04, 2023, 04:21:51 pm »
Never heard of it until today, must have been sleeping.  :D

Is this development good/bad, or of no consequence to us?

General Discussion / 24V fag lighter to 5V supply

24V fag lighter to 5V supply
I thought Anker did one, but it looks like they have stopped all 5V cigarette lighter adaptors, though there are still plenty for sale elsewhere. Many sales are confusing 24W with 24V. They have even pulled all historic manuals. Or are there two Anker companies?
It is quite possible that they are all dual voltage but I would like to see that in print.

Any reccomendations for one that does not generate too much noise?

Cheers

Technical Support / Mixed data feeds
« on: August 14, 2022, 11:00:34 pm »
I was on the ground yesterday looking at a complex PAW instalation, that the owner reported discrpencies between a PAW Classic installed with Power Flarm feed and mouse, and a standalone Rosetta. Both in range of an ATOM station.
I occasionally saw missing traffic, but the one that got me was an aircraft in the circut that kept jumping a couple of miles to the north of the circuit and back. Owner disconnected the FLARM and ADSB antenna and the jumping stopped.
Aircraft location remained correct for both units, so not a GPS issue.
Line of sight may have been obstructed at times.
I first suspected that it may be an MLAT report that is intermitantly being used, but that would not make sense as MLAT is sent to both units on the PAW frequncy. So is this an issue with FLARM direct from the aircraft in the circuit to the PF unit?
Unfortunatly I had simulator sessions to run so was not able to check the traffic table etc. Are there any logs that can help?

General Discussion / Suprise contact
« on: July 14, 2022, 01:57:54 pm »
I flew on Saturday and while running up the beast, just off the runway, I had a contact to my left suposedly on the runway at same level. I could see nothing there. Then just as I moved off a paramotor pilot crawled out of the long grass with his chute bundled in his arms :) Guess he had been kneeling down.

Top man for getting EC fitted to his airframe!

OGN-R PilotAware / OGN Reporting glitch
« on: October 31, 2021, 09:14:03 am »
Was there a glitch in the system on Sat 30th at 10:32?

I got an email from each from my stations both being reported offline for 72 minutes and the same time slot. Unlikely to be the stations.

OGN-R PilotAware / 360 Radar contribution
« on: January 13, 2020, 07:52:15 am »
Trying to contact Phillip Lee as I think there may be an issue with my 360 Radar contribution from PWThame. I cannot find any details for him.

I have two stations built from the same image. PWEnstone is working fine according to the posted link by Iain, but not PWThame

I cannot access http://ognpaw.local:8082/, but the other ports are OK. Is this indicative of an issue? I am getting traffic from 360Radar. but not sure how to check that the uplinked contributions are being sent?

TIA

OGN-R PilotAware / OGN/R coverage map
« on: September 04, 2019, 10:35:54 pm »
Is there a way to display this?
OGNRange fails to do this if you use the PW% string. Pretty sure it used to work.

OGN-R PilotAware / OGN-R VRS Server
« on: June 25, 2019, 10:08:47 pm »
Is there a way to add a database of registrations to this server? Getting a lot of blank spaces which reduces its usefulness. I know I can hide the blanks, but that is not the point.

OGN-R PilotAware / Latest version 20190327 and vrs
« on: March 27, 2019, 11:10:56 pm »
On Monday25th  I reported that VRS was not showing altitude or callsigns for FLARM and PAW traffic. Since the above update I can now see altitude, but still no callsigns.
No feedback received on my email.

OGN-R PilotAware / Traffic uploaded
« on: July 04, 2018, 08:11:27 pm »
I had an interesting flight on the 23rd June. I was Pax so could spend some time monitoring the PAW. In particular I was interested in how the Enstone OGN-R ground station performed. There was a contact immedialy after take off that stood out. I am not sure if the display is right or wrong?
I was alerted to a bearingless target with a G flag (see first attachment), which I though odd as all uploads shoud have a position. I spotted the aircraft passing behind up and it was an Augusta A109, not a glider. First suspision was that his mode S was not programmed correctly, so took a screen shot of the traffic page (second attachment). In post flight analysis you can see that there were a number of other aircraft including this one, that the call sign is just 'G'. They have no distance, so mode C/S, yet have PilotAware P flag!
Before Lee asks for it, the log file is here  :o https://www.dropbox.com/s/rvecicih0zdo476/2018-06-23_09-09.trk?dl=0

Are these retransmitted OGN-R traffic or has something gone awre?

Oh, P1, who had been interested in a practical demo of PAW, ordered a Rosetta that night  :)

OGN-R PilotAware / OGN Status
« on: July 04, 2018, 05:07:42 pm »
I have seen messages in the past that the OGN network is not funtioning as people would expect. There have also been doubts of it's long term future which concerns me a bit.

This week I registered with their Google Group and Wiki so that I could add my two stations and I have not exactly been impressed with the state of things. Now today it would seem that most stations are 'off air', including my own, when they seem to be very much alive. Having received an email on the 2nd of July that the servers were overloaded and two more were brought on line, I though things would improve.

The question I have is whether the OGN-R stations hear the FLARM traffic and re-broadcast to PAW equiped aircraft in range regardless of what is happening with their network and servers? Tracking on the inertnet is a bonus and not the reason why OGN-R was set up.
