General Discussion / Re: Pilotaware source differentiator

For testing it might be useful and so could be in the extra info yep.

For the end product use I'm not sure it's important at all so would rather it was not added to the display (clutter) personally.

From what I gather, SkyDemon are in the process of careful thought as to how to enhance the traffic depiction in terms of icons/colour etc. rather than just make it all configurable.

Great show yesterday and great to meet a lot of people from here face to face.
All seats were taken for the presentation which I think went down very well.
Great work on the presentation Keith.

The idea behind the software guide was to reduce the software related questions and problems on the forum.

The hardware construction side was/is in more flux and has evolved over time, so addressing that with a "here's exactly how to build" doc wasn't really possible.
It looks like it will hardly be needed in the future, perhaps just the known hardware list plus a simple guide to plugging it all together ?

In my limited time testing PAWs together I have found it very random whether you get the red aeroplane symbol or just a white one.
I guess this is the Skydemon algorithm. I'm hoping they are going to release some updates to the "FLARM" traffic side of the software soon.

General Discussion / Re: Pi Zero and PilotAware

I'd imagine it's not working for the similar reasons to the Pi2 - drivers and therefore wouldn't work until Lee explicitly put work in for it.

But PilotAware is USB heavy so not sure it's well suited to the task.

Looks like I'll be there now (Sat).

Plan to bring PAW to Telford Sat 28th.   Any chance of loading my micro card with the
latest download.   No luck with Widows (!) 10

I've had a look for (free) partitioning software on Windows 10 but not found anything that seems to work so far.
If we can find something that works, I'll add steps for it to the Software Guide.

I have learned today from an authoritative source that ADS-B messages tagged as:
  • Version 0 do not support/include SIL or SDA data.
  • Version 1 do not support/include SDA data but do support/include SIL
  • Version 2 does support/include SIL and SDA data, AND the definition of SIL was changed between Version 1 and Version 2.

Interesting - I don't see any SDA/SIL entries for our TRT800 transponder so I guess it's running "version 0". Does that equate to SIL=0 SDA=0 ?!!

Yep - it's imperative you follow the formatting procedure in the Software Guide to the letter.

To be fair I'm not sure we have quite got to the point of utterly reliable, simple procedures. However ...

The idea behind the Software Installation Guide (and the Known Good Hardware List) is to provide this, so newcomers can simply follow that and all will work.

Certainly people should follow that to the letter first. I do mean to the letter too - e.g. don't follow it with everything running indoors where GPS reception will be non-existent! Don't skip/forget SD formatter options etc.

If there are genuine cases not covered by the documentation I'm keen to know so I can update it - feedback on the Documentation thread please.

Bear in mind the recommendation from Lee is not to pursue the internal side of the PAW just yet though as it may change.

If you want to play and don't mind the risk of change then that's the way I'd build it at the moment.

My money is on the SD card formatting btw!

Cheap HDMI cables with free delivery here:

Probably way too much choice - I imagine any would work for PAW->TV

Not yet but I think it's likely Lee will have news after the Telford show next weekend.
