Reformat as per the software installation guide.

Hi Ian,

After I received the document I phoned the chap up in Germany and quizzed him on the minimum version as it conflicted with advice others had been given that had been shared with me.

Ours appears to be too old to upgrade - funny as it basically seems to work !!

If, by "basically seems to work", you mean it outputs SIL=0 and SDA=0 then that may well be true.

However..... I was advised by NATS that a couple of transponders in their uncertified GPS ADS-B trial output faulty GPS position coordinates (flipped minus sign on LAT or LONG). And the Funke chap on Friday said that there were bugs in the pre-v5.3 code to do with intermittent faulty GPS position. I put 2 and 2 together!!!

As I now understand it, Funke started providing support for ADS-B from v4.8 onwards but 100% correct support for uncertified GPS ADS-B is only from v5.3 or later.

Steve

Interesting. By "basically seemed to work" I mean no SIL/SDA but GPS coords look reasonable.

Thanks for this Steve!

I think the solution regarding audio / informing you of potential collisions will fall under the remit of SkyDemon et al rather than out of the PAW (?)

ARF performance a bit academic now but yea I did away with one washer to help with this.
I also have some spare longer connectors but don't imagine I'll be using those now!

I'm not sure whether ADS-B IN on "drones" would be a blessing or a curse.
(By "drone" here, I mean RC-helicopter-thing-bought-by-kid-on-a-market-stall rather than mil-spec-UAV !)

Could be useful for a transmit-only P3I "DroneAware" though  ;)

No GPS signal at all.

It needs to be outdoors to work, especially the first time the GPS boots up (if using a USB one).

If you don't have a USB GPS you need the PilotAware / CollisionAware app running to feed GPS to PilotAware from your tablet/phone.

It does rather look that way.

See p19 and p21 of the software installation guide:

General Discussion / Re: Pilotaware source differentiator
« on: December 02, 2015, 02:24:56 pm »
ok here is a question:
So I'm flying and outputting ADS-B through transponder and have my PAWS all up and running. I fly towards say Ian Fallon and he is doing the same thing with ADS-B and PAWS. If we are out of PAWS range I would expect that we would see each other on the ADS-B receiver input.....so if we fly towards each other what will happen when we get to within PAWS range ??

Hi Bryan,
This is a valid point, because the data that is held is consolidated from the P3I and ADS-B streams.
The index is the ICAO Hex code, so if the data is interleaved like this as it is received
ADS-B ...
ADS-B ...
ADS-B ...
ADS-B ...
P3I ...
ADS-B ...
P3I ...
ADS-B ...
P3I ...

What should be displayed ?

Thx
Lee

I'm guessing at the moment Lee, you would overwrite the single entry keyed on the hex code for the a/c which seems sensible. So you'd just get more info about the same aircraft, i.e. it updates more frequently.

However, I would imagine there is a risk of some "jittering" of the aircraft on the display because the lag of the ADS-B info will be different to the lag of the P3I info so perhaps a more complex algorithm is needed ?

Presumably the combined data will produce a single aircraft icon showing relative altitude etc as if it is from a single (i.e. either) source. Not sure we need to know the source type - surely the object is to encourage us to look outside for the approaching aircraft and to help decide which way to turn/climb or descend to pass it clearly and safely.

Data can be examined later if necessary through the traffic screen if I recall.

I do accept though that during the extended testing period a simple means of determining whether the contact is from an ARF source or a much higher powered ADSB unit could be beneficial.

Peter

Agreed.

Definitely looks good  :)

Looking forward to the answer! Ours is running Firmware v4.7 I think which I believe is one behind the latest v4.8 ( ? )
It appears to "work" with the ADS-B IN from the PAW but I don't see any SIL/SDA values output in the traffic list.

I like the idea of the USB bits not able to jiggle out ( esp during aerobatics! ) but would imagine you get a lot of heat build up inside such a case ( ? )
Makes me start to think about the idea of adding a small fan to the design ( ? )
