General Discussion / Re: Testing ARF with a TV tuner
« on: September 18, 2015, 09:13:50 pm »
I can't get anywhere with this SDRSharp thing either. Does anyone have a reliable step by step way of doing this ? I'm at the end of my tether with it all! I see nada on the graph thing I just get "Cannot access RTL device" when I press start and all the various options are all Greek to me.

If I don't have the ADS-B dongle connected to the Pi (because it's connected to the laptop) will the Pi still activate the ARF transmit without it ? The Pi is saying SDR-USB: Error, connect() over and over of course.

P.S with everything attached to the Pi this is the boot sequence I get ...

Does this look like the ARF is working ? Is it possible to tell ?

Hmmm - two of us got together to test the ARF side of things today with no avail.
I've also tried using that sourceforge spec analyser app with no joy, although I have no idea if that is working either.
If anyone has any further ideas on testing the ARF side I'd be interested. I don't have any fancy test equipment!

Corrected SOP diagram with 5v connections to the Adafruit MPL3115A2.

EDIT: Added it as described in my diagram and on the new software build it indicates it is working  :)

Ah yes - got that diagram slightly wrong - will remove it and correct it later.

Yea - I wonder whether it would drive the ARF - academic with the SOP board but curious.

Been thinking about the connections for the MPL3115A2 with the Slice of POD.
I think this would be correct (?) ...

Cool - ordered a couple of MPL3115A2 s. Looking forward to the s/w update.

For balance, I have had it all running for hours this afternoon with no sign of anything stopping working at all  :)

I've had everything running all morning here and eventually I got a message saying SkyDemon (Android) had lost the input (after a couple of hours at least).

Had to restart the Pi. I didn't have it connected to the monitor so can't report any messages from the Pi - sorry.

Fundamentally I don't think the reg is important from a safety point of view but I agree it would be cool to be able to see and/or some indication of the type of traffic it is (heli, fast jet etc).
One for Skydemon's forum I think rather than here though.

IIRC all registered aircraft have allocated 24bit hex IDs (shown on G-INFO) regardless of whether they have Mode S fitted or not.

General Discussion / Re: Wireless Things ARF board optional extra

There's a 3rd option too - use a Slice of Pod board from Wireless Things instead of the Digole or POD.

See the Model B thread for some pics from my build using this approach.
